Pop-Ed: Corey Haim's Death and the Loss of Innocence

By Kristen Tsetsi  Posted Mar 13th 2010 06:57AM
Corey Haim MoviesCorey Haim's popular 80s film characters were often a direct reflection of the magnificent balance of innocence and reality we came to expect from Hollywood and they existed in a world far removed from the details surrounding Haim's death on March 10.

With his pinchable face and mischievous sideways glances, Haim was the perfect poster boy for that unique decade in movies. We had not yet been inundated with the shallow crudeness of today's storylines whose characters include teenage boys so bent on sex they fornicate with food ('American Pie') or dream of doing it with a human-sized bag of marijuana ('Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay').

There was just something different about films back then. In Haim's glory days, teens weren't depicted as faultless, by any means. They had certainly broken through the purity barrier with lines like "Check out the t--- on that one." But, at the same time, their "very bad" behavior was generally exemplified by hiding an alcohol-filled flask in a locker and was, by today's standards, pretty good.

Jennifer Love Hewitt and Jamie Kennedy Split!

By Bryan Alexander  Posted Mar 13th 2010 02:28AM
They were television's most unlikely couple. Now, they are officially splitsville.

After rumors of discord, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Jamie Kennedy have confirmed they have broken up, People.com reports.

No other details of the split were given.

The two Ghost Whisperer stars have been dating for more than a year. They made their relationship public just months after Hewitt officially broke up with her then fiance Ross McCall (who had appeared in one episode of the Ghost Whisperer in 2006).

While many in the world said it wouldn't last between the actress and the comedian, Hewitt showed her commitment by nursing her man through a kidney stone procedure in 2009, People.com wrote at the time.

Love Hewitt recently dropped a big hint of Kennedy discord when she appeared on Lopez Tonight pushing her book The Day I Shot Cupid.

"It's all about romance and guys," Hewitt said. " I wanted the chance to sort of say, 'this is what dating has been for me.'"

Attorney General: Corey Haim Tragedy Linked to Prescription Drug Ring

By Bryan Alexander  Posted Mar 12th 2010 08:53PM

California's attorney general said he believes Corey Haim's tragic death this week is linked to a "illegal and massive prescription-drug ring" already under investigation in the state.

"Corey Haim's death is yet another tragedy linked to the growing problem of prescription-drug abuse," Attorney General Jerry Brown said Friday, according to CNN. "This problem is increasingly linked to criminal organizations, like the illegal and massive prescription-drug ring under investigation."

Even though the coroner has not ruled on what killed Haim on Wednesday, Brown's office says the the former child star's death has already played a part in their ongoing investigation into illegal prescriptions outside of Los Angeles.

The statement says "an unauthorized prescription under the former child star's name that was found during an ongoing investigation of fraudulent prescription-drug pads ordered from a vendor in San Diego."

Brown said the ring uses stolen doctor's identities to order prescription-drug pads that are used to write counterfeit prescriptions.
