When Linkin Park's Projekt Revolution tour kicked off last month, all of the bands on the bill were feeling good from the word go -- in particular, My Chemical Romance and Taking Back Sunday, who believe the tour a chance for the friends to hit the road together again for the first time in three years. "We've been wanting to tour together since they came out with ['Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge']," TBS' guitarist/vocalist Fred Mascherino tells PopEater. "With 'The Black Parade,' we had planned on doing a tour and it hadn't worked into the schedule until now. They're our oldest friends."Both bands are touring records that are a bit aged but MCR frontman Gerard Way says playing to the new audience is making 'The Black Parade' feel new again. "It feels, to a degree, that we're breaking the record again," he said. "And even when a song is a single, it gets a big response from the diehards or maybe people that just heard it on the radio or something. But we're still working to get the rest of the audience on the same page as us."
Linkin Park guitarist Brad Delson says the mission statement of Projekt Revolution "is to put together really eclectic talent on one stage, groups that are individually committed to pushing boundaries." And while some might argue that the main stage consists of primarily rock bands, Delson is quick to clarify. "Each one of these bands is in a different sub-genre in their own right and are leaders within that," he says. "Putting them all together creates a lot of diversity and that to me is exciting."
Though not all of the bands have toured together and backstage bonding activities of choice have yet to be determined, Mascherino is already feeling like there's a community thanks to the hosts. "Linkin Park come up to us each day and ask, 'Do you guys need anything?'" he says. "Of course we never need anything. I'm tyring to think of things, like, 'I could use some ice cream today.'"
