Why They're About to Pop: These boistrous pop rockers have been making music for nearly five years Most of the songs on their debut album, 'Changes,' were penned when the boys were transitioning from adolescence into young adulthood, an energy that's captured throughout their infectious record.
The SoCal band's first single, 'Everything,' is marked by a video that took more than five months of paparazzi befriending to make. In the almost unbelievable footage, Shaun Profeta (guitar/vocals), Colin Baylen (guitar/vocals), Mark Borst Smith (bass/keyboards) and Dillan Wheeler (drums) tote a giant boombox around Hollywood, in the faces of today's biggest A-list celebs. Some of which are into it, and others who couldn't be bothered. Either way, the song and the video are a smash hit. Look for ACM on the road this month with Armor For Sleep, and at this year's upcoming Bamboozle Left festival.
Three Questions with guitarist/singer Shaun Profeta:
What's your favorite song on the record?
My favorite song is a track called 'Lions.' It's one of the most honest and personal songs on the record. Also, I think it's one of our most unique songs as well. You listen to the record, thinking you know our sound then ... BAYUM! Track 6 comes on. We threw in a curve ball.
If you could have any musician's career other than your own, whose would it be?
Well, I don't think I could even dream of being one of the members of the Beatles because that's sacred ground, and as sweet as it would be to be Mark [Hoppus], Tom [DeLonge] or Travis [Barker] of Blink-182, those are some pretty big shoes to fill. Being John Mayer for day would be sweet. Didn't he date Jennifer Love Hewitt?
What did you think life as a musician would be like when you first started out and how does it compare to what it's really like for you now?
A lot of times it's easy to forget how much work it takes to maintain this kind of lifestyle. Honestly, it may seem like being in a band is all about living the dream, when in reality it's far from that. If you don't stay focused on working hard and keeping not only yourself in check, but the relationships with your bandmates in check, too, you can get into a very bad place. Not to say that you can't have fun while you do it; its obviously a thrill everyday. But at the same time, there's a lot of pressure. We've always tried not to take ourselves too seriously, because if your not having fun playing music, then what's the point?
