About to Pop: Shwayze

Who:
Shwayze
Album: 'Shwayze'
Hails From: Malibu, CA
For Fans Of: Lupe Fiasco and Everlast

Why He's About to Pop:
Shwayze -- the self-proclaimed "only black kid in Malibu" -- has definitely gotten by with a little help from his friend, Cisco Adler. Adler began writing with and producing the 22-year-old rapper after watching him freestyle before one of his sets. The two found instant chemistry and hit Adler's home studio to create a mellow, beachside blend of hip-hop. "There was no particular process," Adler says. "It was party the night before to get something to talk about, then wake up in the morning and make a song about it." Shwayze's first single, 'Buzzin'', is doing exactly what it its title implies, clocking in over 500,000 YouTube plays and garnering a collective Internet seal of approval. Up next? Shwayze and Cisco Adler will be on Warped Tour all summer beginning June 20.

Three Questions with Shwayze:

What inspired the songs on your record?

It was a summer when I had no money, no place to live and just got back from college where I didn't accomplish anything. Cisco and I started making the record and I had nothing lose. I was working construction, recording the record and partying at night all summer long.

If you could have any musician's career other than your own, whose would it be?

P. Diddy because he started as an intern like I did and built his way to the top.

If we looked inside your refrigerator, what would we find?

Water, iced tea, milk, Frosted Flakes, Newman's Own chocolate chip cookies and not much else because we eat out a lot.
