NEW YORK (Dec. 10) -- Discovery Channel says Bear Grylls, rugged adventurer and star of its popular "Man vs. Wild" series, has been injured during an expedition in Antarctica.
A fall resulted in a shoulder injury to Grylls, who is en route back home to Britain for medical treatment and assessment of the injury's severity, according to Discovery.
PEOPLE is reporting that Grylls was airlifted out of Antarctica on Tuesday, four days after injuring himself, due to weather conditions that delayed his rescue.
