(Jan. 13) - If Britney Spears goes through with releasing 'If U Seek Amy' as her comeback album's third single, as is rumored, she could find herself banned by radio stations over its transparently sexual title and chorus.
The lyrics for the song, off 'Circus,' will spell controversy, many argue: "But all of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek Amy." The trick is to say the last four words fast. Get it?
Even if the song gets released, it's unlikely cost-conscious radio stations will risk FCC fines, or worse, their licenses just to play it.
John Ivey of KIIS FM in Los Angeles tells MTV that he'd have to run the song through the proper channels before allowing it on the air. "My first job is to protect [the station's] license ... It's better to be safe than sorry."
Patti Marshall, a program director for a Top 40 station in Cincinnati, told MTV that she probably wouldn't play it, and even likened Spears' lyrical stunt to "a little boy in sixth grade doing arm farts."
The gimmick joins the tradition of album titles like Van Halen's 1991 'For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge.'
