(Feb. 8) - Rihanna has been identified as the victim in Chris Brown's assault charge, TMZ first reported, and now there's more details coming out about what happened in the hours after the incident. A RadarOnline.com witness who was in the hospital with Rihanna says the 'Disturbia' singer "was clearly very upset by what had happened and I could hear her screaming."

The source also says that Rihanna's "staff was also very shaken by what had happened. Later on I saw one of the assistants crying into the shoulder of the security guard. TMZ first reported that Brown had surrendered to police. He posted $50,000 bail and was released, and according to one source, Rihanna "suffered contusions and bite marks."
The LAPD had stated in a release the 19-year-old R&B singer and a woman were in a vehicle in the Hancock Park neighborhood early Sunday when they began arguing. After they exited the car, the argument escalated. The LAPD has indicated they will not release the accuser's name.
"The identity of the victim will not be released," Officer April Harding said at the time. "Any victim who's involved in a domestic violence incident is entitled to confidentiality."
According to a PEOPLE source, Rihanna and Brown have had "lots of ups and downs" of late, saying that "one second they're all lovey dovey and then they're fighting like crazy. They're both pretty stubborn."
Brown has long been dating pop superstar Rihanna, who was slatedto perform early in the Grammys show on Sunday night. But she dropped out, the RecordingAcademy said in a statement less than an hour before the show andshe was not seen at the venue as the show was about to get underway.
"We have just been informed that Rihanna will not beattending tonight's 51st Annual Grammy Awards. We're sorry sheis unable to join us," the academy said in a brief statementthat did not offer any further explanation.

    Chris Brown's manager, Tina Davis, was named by TMZ as the woman behind the text message that sparked his alleged beating of Rihanna. She has since denied the claims, saying: "The rumors in circulation are false. There are no emails between Ms. Davis and Mr. Brown of the type which have been described in media reports."

    Chris Brown made a brief appearance in court on March 5, but did not enter a plea to felony charges. He has been charged with two felonies -- felony assault and making criminal threats -- in relation to his alleged assault on Rihanna.


    Even with all of the legal drama, various reports have claimed that Rihanna and Brown are back together, though none have been confirmed. E! News also reported that the two were working on a duet together.

    Court documents revealed that the police report claims Brown allegedly assaulted Rihanna in his car after she discovered a text message on his phone. According to the report, Brown smashed her head against the window, and then punched and bit her.

    TMZ obtained a photo that appears to be singer Rihanna, taken shortly after Chris Brown allegedly beat her following a pre-Grammy party. Police have said the woman had visible injuries, and that Brown was gone from the scene when they arrived.


    Brown can be seen leaving the police station after being booked. According to police reports, he assaulted Rihanna in the car, and told her "I'm going to beat the s--- out of you when we get home." He also allegedly threatened to kill her after she told her assistant to call the police.


    In their cover story, PEOPLE spoke with the father of Rihanna, who says he hopes his daughter is done with boyfriend Brown after his alleged assault. Shortly after, reports that Rihanna and Brown were back together in Miami emerged.


    Brown, seen a day before the alleged attack, released a statement on Feb. 15, which read in part, "Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired."


Numerous reports saying the two were involved in a car accident and a rep for Rihanna reportedly did not confirm or deny the story when asked for comment by MTV News. "Rihanna is well. "After stopping his car, Brown and the woman got out andthe argument escalated," the Los Angeles police Departmentsaid. "The woman suffered visible injuries and identified Brownas her attacker."
The LAPD received a 911 call reporting the disturbance and,according to the statement, when officers arrived they foundthe victim, but Brown had already left the scene.
An LAPD spokeswoman declined further comment.
Brown, who released his first album in 2005 at the age of16, the self-titled "Chris Brown," topped the charts with hishit single "Run It!" Brown's ad campaign with Wrigley was suspended Monday until his criminal case is resolved. A statement released by the company acknowledged "serious allegations made against Chris Brown," but added that Brown should be "afforded the same due process as any citizen."
Barbados-born Rihanna has already logged four No. 1 singlessince breaking onto the charts in 2005.
She won a 2007 Grammy Award for her single "Umbrella," acollaboration with the rapper Jay-Z, and had been scheduled toperform her latest hit, "Disturbia," Sunday night.
