Taser-Wielding Police Save 'Suge' Knight

(Feb. 17) - Police using Tasers broke up an early morning fight that sent rap impresario Marion "Suge" Knight to an Arizona hospital for treatment of face injuries, authorities said Monday. Security at the W Scottsdale Hotel near Phoenix called police after two groups of guests exchanged "heated words in the VIP area" at about 3 a.m. Monday, Scottsdale police said.
Skip over this contentRobert Carnes Jr., 38, of Bethlehem, Pa., one of the menarrested, identified himself as the business manager of hip-hopstar Akon, said police spokesman Sgt. Mark Clark. Akon, who was inPhoenix for the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday, was not present duringthe fight, he said.
Officers arrived to see Carnes twice punch the 43-year-oldKnight in the face, Clark said. Knight sustained broken facialbones, he said.
Police booked Carnes and a man identified as Thomas AndersonJr., 33, of California, on suspicion of assault and disorderlyconduct.
Knight was co-founder of Death Row Records, a label thatfeatured such gangsta rap artists as Dr. Dre, Tupac Shakur andSnoop Dog. New York-based Global Music Group Inc. said on June 24it purchased Death Row for $24 million.

His career has been overshadowed in recent years by run-inswith the law.
In August, he was arrested in Las Vegas on drug and assaultcharges after he was suspected of punching his girlfriend andpulling a knife on her during an argument outside a stripclub.
Knight was jailed in October 1996 for violating hisprobation on a previous assault case by allegedly kicking a manduring a scuffle at a Las Vegas hotel.
