Letterman Reveals Wedding on 'Late Night'

(March 23) - And the number one reason Letterman shocked his audience during the taping of Monday's 'Late Night' show is... he announced that he had married long-time girlfriend Regina Lasko on Thursday in Choteau, Montana.

Usmagazine.com revealed the nuptials shortly before Letterman made the announcement on his own show. The news was a great surprise to his audience - and no doubt, the comedian's friends - as Letterman has made no secret of his reluctance to marry after his divorce in 1977. He was previously married to his college sweetheart Michelle Cook.

Dave's Big Reveal

Letterman and Lasko began dating in 1986. In 2003, Lasko gave birth to their son, Harry.

About 20 minutes into Monday's taping, Letterman said, "On Thursday, at 3 p.m., March 19, 2009, at the Teton County Courthouse in Choteau, Montana, I was married to Regina Lasko."

Letterman told his audience, "I had avoided getting married pretty good for, like, 23 years, and I -- honestly, whether this happened or not -- I secretly felt that men who were married admired me... like I was the last of the real gunslingers, you know what I'm saying?'"

Letterman said that his truck was stuck in the Montana mud on the way to the courthouse, forcing him to walk back to the house in 50 mph wind. He added, "The whole way, I'm thinking, 'See, smart ass, see you try to get married and this is what happens.'"

According to PEOPLE, Lasko wore a navy blue suit and a peach-colored corsage, and despite Dave's run-in with the mud, the talk show host was dressed neatly.

Two of the couple's friends stood up for them as witnesses, while the justice of the peace officiated the intimate ceremony.
