PopEater
(April 10) - People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has a favor to ask of Pet Shop Boys -- they want the band to change its name.
PETA has asked that they rename themselves Rescue Shelter Boys to highlight how terrible the organization believes pet shops to be.

The animal rights group wrote to the duo, in a letter they admitted was "bizarre," but let Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe know that "most dogs and cats sold in pet shops are sourced from profit-hungry breeders who may have bred them in cramped, filthy conditions. With an emphasis on quantity rather than quality, unmonitored genetic defects and personality disorders pass from one generation of puppies and kittens to the next."
Tennant and Lowe declined PETA's request, but posted a response on their Web site and thanked the organization for the letter, saying that it "raises an issue worth thinking about."
