The animal rights group wrote to the duo, in a letter they admitted was "bizarre," but let Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe know that "most dogs and cats sold in pet shops are sourced from profit-hungry breeders who may have bred them in cramped, filthy conditions. Tennant and Lowe declined PETA's request, but posted a response on their Web site and thanked the organization for the letter, saying that it "raises an issue worth thinking about."
