(April 17) - Ashton Kutcher edged out CNN early Friday morning in contest to see who could attract 1 million followers on Twitter the fastest.
According to CNN, which understandably was watching the tallies all night, Kutcher reached 1 million about 30 minutes before the news net passed the mark. About 2:13 a.m. ET, Kutcher's account (aplusk) crossed the 1 million mark, beating CNN (cnnbrk). CNN passed the mark at 2:42 a.m. ET.
Kutcher celebrated with a live webcast that included champagne, his wife Demi Moore and Kool & the Gang's hit 'Celebration.' Watch:
"We are over a million. CNN is still trying to get there. And that isjust how it goes," Kutcher said. "There are a million people that need to be thanked for this."

The 31-year-old actor challenged CNN and its founder, Ted Turner to the race and has promised to "ding-dong-ditch" (ring doorbell, run away) the billionaire's house if he beats the news network to a cool mill.
On a serious note, Kutcher promised to donate 10,000 mosquito bed nets to charity for World Malaria Day in late April if he bested CNN, and 1,000 if he lost. The cable news network agreed to do the same.
Kutcher and CNN are the first Twitterers to reach a million followers.
Kutcher saw this competition as a significant sign of the times.
"I find it astonishing that one person can actually have as big of a voice online as what an entire media company can on Twitter," Kutcher said in a video he posted on qik.com. "I just thought that was kind of an amazing comment on the state of our media."
When Larry King caught whiff of Kutcher's challenge he posted snarky tongue-in-cheek video promising the wrath of his company.

"Are you kidding? Do you think you can take on an entire network? Do you know how big we are? Do you know what CNN is? Kutcher, you're playing out of your field. You're in anothertime zone. This ain't gonna work. CNN will bury you!"
Both Kutcher and his wife, Demi Moore, are incredibly popular Twitter users, though actress lags far behind her hubby in followers with 542,239 readers.

Celebs Fight Through the Media

Miss California USA Carrie Prejean is standing by her views on gay marriage despite the flurry of insults from blogger Perez Hilton, who asked her what she thought of same-sex marriages during the Miss USA pageant. Since Prejean said she believes marriage is between a man and woman, Hilton has gone on a media blitz attacking her.

Ashton Kutcher has challenged CNN and its founder Ted Turner to see who can be the first to get to 1 million followers on Twitter. Kutcher has promised to prank Turner's house (which one?) and, more importantly, donate 10,000 mosquito bed nets to charity for World Malaria Day if he beats CNN, and 1,000 if he loses. The cable news network has agreed to do the same.

Jamie Foxx, 41, uncorked on his satellite radio show on April 12, calling Miley Cyrus a "little white b***h" and mocking the 16-year-old idol for her old beef with Radiohead. "Make a sex tape and grow up," Foxx said. "Get like Britney Spears and do some heroin. Do like Lindsay Lohan and start seeing a lesbian and get some crack in your pipe. Catch chlamydia on a bicycle seat."

Perez Hilton has published updates from @sevinnyne on Twitter.com, allegedly Lohan's real account, accusing possible ex Ronson of cheating, doing drugs, and - strangely - having an overweight sister. The posts read: "being cheated on does wonders to you. PLEASE leave me ALONE."

Singer Taylor Swift used her Myspace to take a Jab at ex-boyfriend, Joe Jonas, for breaking up with her by phone. In her new video blog, Swift holds up his 'Camp Rock' doll and says, "See, this one even comes with a phone, so he can break up with other dolls."

When Captain Kirk fights, he wants the whole world to know. With hurt feelings over a missing invitation to George "Sulu" Takei's wedding, William Shatner aired his pain in multiple Youtube videos. In his first video, Shatner said of Takei, "The poor man, there is such a sickness there. It's so painfully obvious that there is a psychosis there."

We watched Disney cutie Selena Gomez's harmless Youtube video with Demi Lovato, talking about t-shirts and teeth - then we watched Miley and Mandy's needlessly cruel parody of her fellow Mouseketeer and couldn't figure it out. Turns out, neither could Selena - she told MTV News, "There's no feud - there's nothing to feud about, so why start a fight?" Class act, that one.

In 2006, a scuffle between Paris Hilton and Shanna Moakler turned ugly, with each woman filing a police report for battery. Moakler later took to the blogosphere, exacting revenge by posting Paris Hilton's personal contact information on her Myspace page.

Don't mess with Katherine Heigl's friends. When Isiah Washington allegedly called Heigl's BFF T.R. Knight an anti-gay slur, Heigl took to the media in Knight's defense. At the Golden Globes, she told interviewers, "I will throw down for [T.R.]. I will beat you up. I will use every ounce of energy I have to take you down if you hurt his feelings."

Chris Crocker vs. The World. We all remember this Internet celebrity and self-described "edutainer" for his tearful Youtube defense of Britney Spears. The 'Leave Britney Alone!" video spawned at least a dozen parodies and somehow, it produced over four million views in two days.
