If Rob Thomas looks a little, well, pasty on his new album cover for 'Cradlesong,' you'll have to forgive him as he's developed quite the studio tan. "I saw a picture of me the other day and wherever there wasn?t shirt, I was emanating my own light," he tells PopEater. "I?ve never been like Mr. South Beach, I?m not gonna have the f---ing orange tan. I?ll take looking like death for a little while to have a good record."

His second solo album is just that, with Thomas setting fan expectations straight out the gate. "It?s not quite as good as [Bruce Springsteen's] 'Born to Run,' but it?s really, really good." But what would Springsteen think? "He would like half of it," Thomas says, adding the record covers a wide range of styles. "Some of it sounds kind of country, and some of it sounds really uber-fun pop and some of it sounds kind of rock. I?d like to think somebody can hear one song on the record and then when you heard another one, you wouldn't think those were the same artist."
'Cradlesong' hits proverbial shelves June 30.
