Sedgwick couldn't be happier though with the show's upcoming fifth season. "This season is all about change," she revealed. On the show, she plays a top notch crime investigator who still has to come home and deal with her personal life.

"The biggest change is that my character (Deputy Chief Brenda Johnson) is married and now she has to define herself as a married woman in the workplace," she said.

Her character will come face-to-face with a female antagonist played by actress Mary MacDonald. "[She] plays Brenda's opposite in many ways. So often, Brenda has a male antagonist, so it is really nice for her to have a female one," she said of the upcoming, drama-filled plot. Lieutenant Provenza (played by actor G.W. Bailey) will be faced with some drama of his own, when "he gets a girlfriend -- a very young girlfriend," Sedgwick revealed.

Between balancing her work and family life, Sedgwick has teamed up with Tropicana Trop50 and BlogHer.com to educate women about green living.

"I think that sustaining our Earth and not depleting it of its resources should be the number one priority for everybody. We really made quite a mess of it. We all need to do our part," she said.

"It is important for woman to step back and take care of ourselves and share our womanly wisdom with each other. It is all about getting more of what you want and less of what you don't. Every little bit helps. There are so many things you can do to make a difference if we all get on board," she added.
