British star John Cleese of 'Fawlty Towers' and 'Monty Python' fame underwent surgery on his left eye Wednesday, and posted a bedside photograph on Twitter to assure fans of his speedy recovery.

The photo shows Cleese clad in a hospital gown with a large patch taped over his left eye. His friend, Garry Scott-Irvine, took over Cleese's Twitter account to post the photo and say "He didn't want to alarm you by saying that he was having an eye op yesterday... anyway, he's alive!!"

About two hours later, fans had flooded the photo page with comments and well-wishes. Scott-Irvine posted a secondary photo, with Cleese smiling for the camera and a message saying "He perked up when I read him your notes.
