Robin Wright Penn: Marriage Takes Work

If this last year is any indication, Robin Wright Penn's marriage to actor Sean Penn is not always an easy road - the stars called off divorce proceedings last year, then filed legal separation papers in April - only to rescind them shortly thereafter. In an interview with British magazine Psychologies conducted after their initial separation - though before the April separation - Wright Penn spoke about the difficulties of staying married after many years.
"All marriages have their phases," Wright Penn, 43, says in Psychologies' July issue. "It's life. We go through it, if we're married long enough. If you're lucky you grow and you work it out."

"There are a lot of chapters in our book. You have to do the work in your marriage, but it has to be laid on a strong foundation of love," she says. "We have that, and shared history deepens that foundation."
Speaking of her reconciliation, Wright Penn assures the magazine, "It feels good now. If it didn't I wouldn't still be here."
The couple have two children, Dylan Frances, 18, and Hopper Jack, 15. Wright Penn claims that her husband is a "family man" who brings the "energy" into their home, but admits that he's "hopeless domestically."
She says, "I'm the homemaker, and that's fine with me, because I really like that."
