They don't call her the Material Girl for nothing - a list of the world's highest earning musicians released by Forbes proves that Madonna still reigns over the competition, taking home a stunning $110 million last year, making her the top earner in the music world.
The number two and three slots were also taken by women, with Celine Dion pulling in a cool hundred million, and Beyonce Knowles earning $87 million with her 'Sasha Fierce' success.

The ladies' closest male competitor last year was Bruce Springsteen, who earned a comfortable $70 million for his work between June 2008 and June 2009. Interestingly, while women snagged the top three spots, the rest of the top twelve highest earning musicians were all men.
Kenny Chesney and Coldplay also made the list, with the Dave Matthews Band taking the bottom slot of the top twelve. The 'Dancing Nancies' band closed out the list with a year-long earning of only... $30 million.
