In the wake of shocking news of pop superstar Michael Jackson's death, many are left wondering about the fate of his three children. Early reports by RadarOnline suggest that Jackson's mother Katherine will assume custody of the children.

Brian Oxman, the Jackson family's attorney, said, "Probably Mrs. Jackson will take care of them, she loves them dearly."

However, an ABC report suggests that the question of custody will be more complicated. "Michael's mother Katherine wants the kids," said Stacey Brown, co- author of 'Michael Jackson Behind the Mask' and friend of the Jackson family. "But Michael always said he wants Grace, the nanny, to have them if something happened to him."

Grace Rwaramba, 42, is a longtime employee of the singer. She began working for Jackson nearly 20 years ago as an office assistant, taking on increased responsibilities over the years. Rwaramba testified in Jackson's defense during his 2008 breach-of-contract trial. Reportedly, Prince Michael Jr., 12, Paris Katherine, 11, and 7-year-old Prince Michael Jackson II - known as Blanket - are currently staying with Rwaramba.

According to the ABC report, there is a strong possibility that Debbie Rowe, the mother of Jackson's two eldest children, will attempt to regain custody of Michael, Jr. and Paris. Jackson and Rowe were married briefly, but divorced six months after the birth of their daughter. Jackson had custody of both children originally, though Rowe sued the singer in 2006 in an attempt to regain custody. Jackson and Rowe settled out of court for undisclosed terms, with Jackson retaining custody.

Rowe's lawyer, Iris Finsilver, would not comment on whether Jackson's ex-wife would try again to get custody of the children, saying only: "Debbie is absolutely inconsolable."

Jackson's youngest son was carried by a surrogate mother whose name has not been released.
