Michael Bay is brushing off reported criticism from Megan Fox that his movies depend too heavily on special effects, and fail to offer ample opportunities for actors to act, telling the Wall Street Journal his 'Transformers' starlet is showing her naivet� by biting the hand that feeds.

"Well, that?s Megan Fox for you. She says some very ridiculous things because she?s 23 years old and she still has a lot of growing to do," he said. "You roll your eyes when you see statements like that and think, 'Okay Megan, you can do whatever you want. I got it.'"

Fox stars in Bay's 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,' which has raked in an astounding $228 million domestically, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com.

Bay thinks the proof is in his track record of finding new talent, or at least elevating the profile of already-established actors in his films.

"Nicolas Cage wasn?t a big actor when I cast him, nor was Ben Affleck before I put him in 'Armageddon.' Shia LaBeouf wasn?t a big movie star before he did 'Transformers' -- and then he exploded. Not to mention Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, from 'Bad Boys.'

And then of course there's one more star that he had a hand in creating. Bay: "Nobody in the world knew about Megan Fox until I found her and put her in 'Transformers.'"

"I like to think that I?ve had some luck in building actors? careers with my films."

But what exactly did Fox say about Bay that inspired the Journal's question?

A quick scan of recent interviews finds little, except for this mild comment from Fox that could be construed as a dig towards Bay. She told the Daily Record in the UK, "People are well aware that this is not a movie about acting. Once you realise that, it becomes almost fun because you can go, 'All right, I know that when [Bay] calls action I'm either going to be running or screaming, or both.'"
