Sacha Baron Cohen hung up the wig, tucked his thong into his pants and dropped that Austrian-ese accent on Tuesday during a guest slot on David Letterman's show, giving his mischievous character Bruno a rest for a day.
Skip over this contentThe dapper comedian was positively mild-mannered during the appearance, where he told a story about securing an interview with a real live terrorist (while in Bruno-mode). The film hits theaters this week and Baron Cohen has been keeping busy making outrageous appearances on the MTV Movie Awards and 'The Tonight Show,' where he gave Conan O'Brien a lap dance.
Why did he do it? The New York Times Arts Beat blog speculates it may have been out of reverence for the Michael Jackson memorial service that was held earlier in the day. Also, this could signal the end of his Baron Cohen-as-character phase.
