'Today' Can't Bear to Broadcast Bruno's Embrace of Matt Lauer

Like ripping off a band-aid to minimize the pain, 'Today' producers snappily cut short Matt Lauer's tongue-in-cheek interview with flamboyant Austrian fashionisto Bruno on Thursday, just as he was about to pounce on the chuckling host.
Bruno (Sacha Baron Cohen) was in the midst of an emotional breakdown after Lauer informed him that the Austrian foreign minister to Great Britain had recently called for a boycott of his film, 'Bruno.' He asked for a close-up shot, produced some tears, and then can be seen getting up, saying "Hug me! I feel so lonely!" before things were cut short.
He did not return after the segment, raising questions as to what actually happened between him and Lauer. According to PEOPLE, what you didn't see was Bruno jumping into Lauer's arms. Watch:
