The TV series based on Steve Martin's 1989 movie 'Parenthood' is experiencing some labor pains, due to the unspecified illness of one of its stars. Maura Tierney, known for her Emmy-nominated work as Dr. Abby Lockhart on 'ER,' is taking time off for medical evaluation, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and her series will now debut midseason.

'Parenthood' had been scheduled to begin filming July 27. Production has now been pushed back eight weeks to late September. NBC commented, "We are unable to release further details and ask that you respect her privacy at this time."
This is the second delay the series has faced due to unpleasant circumstances. Production on the pilot was shut down for two days in April after NBC executive Nora O'Brien died unexpectedly on the Berkeley, California, set of the show.
