Glassman: 'Gosselin Is Part of the Family'

The woman who might someday become step-mother to eight Gosselins has shared her thoughts on her new boyfriend. 22-year-old Haily Glassman tells PEOPLE that she developed feelings for Jon Gosselin when he stayed with her family after splitting with his wife Kate.

"He was so strong," Glassman says. "I admired him."

She adds, "We're always laughing and joking. We watch movies, play pool and ping pong. We laugh a lot because I beat him at everything."

Losing gracefully isn't the 'Jon & Kate Plus 8' star's only appealing skill, says Glassman. "He's a great cook. He cooks roasted veggies with special seasoning and sauces, and he grills pineapple with a butter concoction."

Jon Gosselin and Kate Major, a reporter for Star magazine, go to dinner in New York City on July 18 but the two were definitely not on a date.

Hailey's father is the plastic surgeon who performed Kate Gosselin's tummy tuck, and he's another fan of the 32-year-old newly single dad, Hailey says. "They love him," says Glassman of her parents. "They think of him as part of the family. They think things happen for a reason. The most important thing is if someone fits in with my family ... This is perfect. It just fits."

"I'm a huge believer in not controlling someone," Glassman replies, when asked what Gosselin likes about her. "I'll give my opinion but tell him to do what he wants to do. He said, 'I'm just not used to having an option.' I told him life is about options."

The option of dating a reality TV star is not one she anticipated, however. "If you had told me a few months ago, I wouldn't have believed you," Glassman says.
