In her first appearance since the news of her separation from husband Dean Sheremet, singer
LeAnn Rimes introduced a song with a few timely comments about broken hearts. She told the audience of the Deer Valley Music Festival in Utah, "You probably know it's inevitable that in a relationship, sometimes you will have your heart broken at some point."
Rimes went on to say, "Sometimes, you might say that you can't do anything and sometimes, you want revenge. Sometimes, you say, 'You're not worth it.' But sometimes, you don't, and that's when you leave it in God's hands and know that he will take care of it."
Sheremet made his comments via
Twitter, telling his friends and fans, "Thanks to everyone for all the support through a very difficult time!"
Just days before
PEOPLE reported the separation, the marriage of Rimes' 'Northern Lights' costar Eddie Cibrian suffered a setback. After months of public speculation that Rimes and Cibrian were having an affair - and a grainy video suggesting the couple out on a date - Cibrian and his wife separated.
Cibrian's wife Brandi Glanville told
Us Weekly earlier this week, "Eddie and I have decided to take some time apart. I want to do what is best for our children. Eddie and LeAnn [Rimes] deserve each other."
A source close to Rimes and Sheremet now tells
PEOPLE, "They were so young when they got married, she was 19, he was 21. Maybe they just grew up and they weren't in the same place anymore. I don't think that's unusual considering how young they were when they got married, and the business they're in."
Adds a friend of the couple, "They were so close, I believe that however the marriage works out, they will always be the best of friends."
