No Cheating in Simpson/Romo Split

As though the media were as shocked by Tony Romo's sudden breakup as Jessica Simpson herself, various theories for the split have surfaced, involving flirting and relationships with other people - but the individuals concerned say it's not so.
Country singer Kenny Chesney responds to rumors that Simpson lost a boyfriend over some 4th of July flirtation, telling PEOPLE, "Tony's a friend, and I wouldn't flirt with a buddy's girlfriend. More importantly," he adds, "Jessica was just being sweet and there was nothing else to it. It's not funny. There were no problems. Everybody got along great. After the party, everybody went their own way and nobody thought anything more about it. Period. End of story."

"If a girl and her boyfriend can't go to someone's house for a Fourth of July party and talk to the other guests without it turning into a big nightmare ... then I feel really sorry for Jessica and Tony, who're both really nice people," Chesney says. "I wonder if I wasn't famous if anyone would even care. But the fact of the matter is I talked to a bunch of guests, hung out, had a good time."
Likewise, the dad of the young woman who allegedly hooked up with Romo before his split with Simpson has addressed the rumors, saying it's "really very silly." Natalie Smith's father, the associate athletic director at Romo's alma mater, says "His breakup brought all these rumors and stories and it is not true."
Explaining that his family has always been close to Romo, Smith adds, "Natalie feels so bad. Just being friends with Tony has disrupted everyone [from] talking about Tony and football and are instead talking about Tony and all of this. What is funny about all of this is that if Tony hadn't broken up with Jessica, nothing would ever have been written about him having lunch with Natalie."
