Jon Says Kate Left Him for a Career

All eyes have been on Jon and Kate Gosselin over the past few months, watching as their marriage crumbled for the world to see on 'Jon & Kate Plus 8.' In the aftermath, many saw Jon partying and dating younger women shortly after the split, but in a new exclusive interview with In Touch Weekly, Gosselin says that Kate essentially ended their marriage last October, so things may not be as fast-moving as they seem.

Days after hanging out in France with his much younger girlfriend, Jon Gosselin reunites with his family and estranged wife Kate at their Pennsylvania home on July 16, 2009.

Jon Gosselin and Kate Major, a reporter for Star magazine, go to dinner in New York City on July 18. On July 22, the pair headed out to the Hamptons to hang out with Michael Lohan, estranged father of Lindsay.

In the In Touch Weekly interview, Gosselin says that "people think that everything moved too fast, that I was out partying too quickly. But Kate gave up on the marriage last October, and the divorce will be finalized by September 30."

He goes on to recall just how the demise of their relationship played out in October 2008.

"Kate basically came to me out of the blue and said, 'I am done. You are going to live your life, and I am going to live my life.' I was like, 'What?' I didn't really know what was going on. When she said that, I was really upset and nervous," Gosselin said.

Jon says he's convinced that Kate wanted to split "because she wanted a career. Maybe I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, and she was going to move on regardless." He adds that he "was beating myself up about it," and asked Kate 'What do I have to do to mend the relationship? What did I do wrong?'

He also claims that he wanted to attend therapy to try to mend their relationship, but that Kate refused to go. "She said, 'If you have a problem, go fix it.'"

"I kind of lost part of my life in my marriage," Gosselin says, referencing the fact that he was 22 and now has eight children. "I lost my whole twenties."

Jon says that after a January vacation to Utah, he decided that his living arrangements with Kate just weren't working. "When I came back on the 17th, Kate and I weren't talking. So I just said, 'I'm moving out of the house,' and that was it."

Gosselin goes on to dish about his relationship with 22-year-old Hailey Glassman, the daughter of the plastic surgeon who did Kate's post-sextuplets tummy tuck. "She is the polar opposite of Kate. It's really different. I feel good about myself and people see my good qualities. I'm not being put down." He says that in the past with Kate, going out with his friends was something he was denied of.

"Sometimes I ask Hailey permission, like I used to do with Kate, and she says, 'You don't have to ask permission.' I was used to living like that, and now it's like a breath of fresh air. You can have a balanced relationship but also spend time with your friends."

He says he plans to introduce Hailey as his girlfriend to the kids "after the divorce is finalized."

So what about the couple's eight children and the fact that their parents' dramatic split has played out in front of the world?

"Even though they are young, it still hurts them," Gosselin says. "They can't figure it out. They're like, 'Why aren't they together? Why can't you hug her?' The other day, Alexis said, 'I want you and Mommy to be home together.' And it hurts because it's not going to happen - and how do you explain that? I just let them know we love them no matter what. It's hard. I feel like I failed them."

When pressed about how his kids will potentially meet and interact with Glassman, Gosselin abruptly said the following: "If what you're trying to get at is, 'Is this the woman who stole Daddy from us?' -- no way."

Debra, You are completely delusional. Jon LOVES the attention, out with young girls, partying in St.Tropez and hanging in the Hamptons. Yeah, he really hates the limelight and the attention. There is NO proof that Kate was or is seeing anyone else and if she is, at least she is being discreet. Jon has admitted to starting the rumor about the bodyguard to throw people off his scent. Jon is a big baby in the middle of a really bad mid-life crisis. The ONLY reason he is speaking out is to spin it for the divorce settlement. He wants to make sure he can keep enough of the kid's money to be able to ravel with his floozies.

I do feel sorry for John and the children...Kate emascualted her husband on air and i can only imagine what she did in private. Who would want to be with someone like that?? Kate usually when a person downgrades another they dont like themselves too much and have many issues to deal with on thier own...Stop blaming others and look in the mirror! Your fixing your bosy with Tummy Tucks what about your inner soul???

He's speaking out now because his poor behavior is plastered everywhere. Now, he's going on the offensive to try and clean up his image. I don't believe his story of the marriage. Yes, Kate is a tough dominating woman and thank God for it because
she has the heavier burden now. If Jon was feeling like such a victim, he should have worked on it a long time ago.

I have watched jon and kate plus eight for the last three or four years. My daughter and i loved to watch the adorable kids.But no more,we feel these children live too much in front of the cameras. And Kate gosslin in our opinion is a complete control freak with a mean streak. I have always felt sorry for Jon. I wish this family well, and hope they will end the show and live a normal life.

I had my son when I was 17. I feel like he rescued me from my 20's.....I don't feel like I missed out on anything, personally. I was never into drinking/drugs/smoking/partying anyway, I went on to get a college degree, and am still married to his father 27 years later, so what did I miss, exactly? As for Jon bashing Kate and how she pushed him around.......*someone* had to be the grown-up in that marriage, and sure wasn't wimp boy. Kate had to grab the reigns and financially provide for those kids and take control of their upbringing while Jon stood in a corner with his thumb up his butt. Sure, Kate has her faults, too....but I give her props for sticking it out this long. Jon never acted like he was thrilled about being a father (although he knowingly and willingly contributed) and (to me) always had this trapped look of regret. Kate was basically on her own with everything from the get-go, so it's not like she's out much with his absence. As for introducing the tart as his girlfriend after the divorce is final...get a clue, Jon. I'm sure the kids already know - they're not blind, deaf, or stupid. Jon doesn't need to benefit any further from his wife's "career"........he needs to not be a part of the show any longer, IMO. Personally, I wish they'd just cancel it for the kids' sake now. I watched 2 shows when it first started, then lost interest. Now, especially, those children do not need cameras in their faces 24/7. Poor little kids.

You know, Kate eventually got tired of your whiny ass complaining about her being bossy. While watching you, you drove me insane and I absolutely saw from Kates point of view what a laid back , useless twit you were. You seemed not to have much of a clue how organised you have to be with 8 kids. She got sick of parenting you as well! She saw 10 yrs of telling you what to do ,and you never learned you still had to be told day in and day out. She finally said, ---k it, he needs to go, i'll have an easier time of it without him here. Godd on her, I would have done the same.

What a joke! Poor Jon, it's all Kate's fault. She made him go bar hopping, flopping with the likes of Haily or whatever her name is? Is he for real? Does he ever look in the mirror & see everything is not someone elses fault. Kate didn't decide to have their kids alone. He was part of that decision. Guess he never thought that being in his 20's & having kids would change his life? Maybe he is from some other planet.

right now i hate jon ok, want are the kids going to say ohh my stepmom is a crack head what good example this girl kaliy haily whatever her name is cause i dont care and i think that instead of you,jon going to france i think kate should go and you and your little 22yr old girlfriend and you which the kids feed them and take care of them. i dont think your girlfriend would even last a week with them. and she needs to shut her mouth saying that she can take care of the kids better of than kate can you woundnt even last a week with them.

Jon is a big fat liar! He went to Kate first and said "you need to go and hire a lawyer" meaning "I want a divorce". You can tell by watching the shows last season that it wasn't Kate, it was Jon. And he says "oh, I was just so young, blah, blah, blah", he should have thought of that before he said "I DO". Did Kate have a gun at his head? I don't think so. He is such a cop-out. And she didn't treat him badly, he acted like her 9th kid. Clueless. Everyone thought "oh poor Jon, Kate yells at him, etc." well she wouldn't have to if he wouldn't act like such a man! DUH!
