After a whirlwind experience on 'Britain's Got Talent,' Susan Boyle has stepped out "refreshed" and glamorous for the latest issue of Harper's Bazaar. While she's still taking "baby steps" with her worldwide fame, Boyle is coming out of her shell with a new makeover and reveals she's busy recording her debut album.
"It will take a bit of adjusting to because I've led a sheltered life, I know. I've got life experience, but mentally I have to adjust. But it's all good. All good," Boyle said.
Is she happy with her 'Talent' experience? "Come on! It goes without saying. Come on now!"
Why she choose to sing 'I Dreamed A Dream'? "I did the audition for [my mother] because she always wanted me to make something of my life, but I had to wait a bit because her death prevented me from singing for a while. I couldn't put my heart into it. So I was singing about wanting things to be like they were before she went. You know, it was a double-edged sword because it was about what I wanted to do, but it was also about wanting to turn back to when she was with me. Powerful stuff."
Was she upset about losing? "I lost to a good group of guys. I think coming in second was good, actually."
Why did she check herself into a clinic after the show? "[I was] overwhelmed. It was a necessary thing. I'm glad I went because I feel really charged now and ready to go."
Why is she continuing her music career? "I don't do it for the money, babe! Who do you think I am? I do it to entertain people. I sing to make people happy."
So has she been kissed yet? "I'm nearly 48 ... and I've never been kissed."
Has she adjusted to her new fame? "The YouTube thing was like a demolition ball. It was just overwhelming -- to find TV stations camped outside your door and the phone ringing 24 hours a day. It was good. But overwhelming. It was too big for anyone to handle."
Hey Chuck- I'll bet you're a real charmer with the ladies. They probably love your charming whit and sensitivity and articulate vocabulary--and an obvious lover of the arts. Not bad for an ignorant callous moron. You'd make a great catch for any brainless idiot who only wants sex. Or maybe you fancy men more than women?
Life is a journey, Dee. Maybe when it all first happened she just wasn't ready for all the changes. It's like she said... "Baby steps." I'm happy for her...
Wow.... And the Real Susan Boyle shines through. It just goes to show you that one should never judge a person solely by appearance... and always look further and deeper into the soul. Anyone can have a beauty makeover to make way for their real talents to come through, so don't let that hold you back. Great work Susan. Can't wait for your album.
Oh my goodness Susan, u r so beatiful! I am so excited 4 u! Ur such an incredible talent! I will NEVER 4GET the look on Simon's face on utube. I watched it a lot. I wish u nothing but the very best! U r as precious as can be! Keep shooting 4 the stars! God bless!! Love from Canada :D
I think the point is that she most certainly WAS judged on her appearance. When she first walked out onto that stage, the audience, judges and people watching thought she was a joke. But once she opened her mouth people were amazed. And I think thats what got her through to the final two and why she didnt have a "makeover" before the end of the show. Because every time she stepped out on that stage, she was the average person...and all the average people got to live for a few moments vicariously through her. So...she WAS judged on her appearance...on her old appearance. People "saw" her as a frumpy middle aged woman that had never been kissed, but they heard far more. What if she came out looking like she does now? I dont think she would have had the same impact. I think her "old" appearnace worked to her favor. Nonetheless, I thought then and think now that she's just beautiful and I wish her all the best!
It's refreshing to see a well written piece on Susan. The pictures and the interview say it all.that's she's happy and having the time of her life. A canny lassie with a big heart and a bigger talent. May her success continue. Gan canny, wee lassie.......gan canny.
Comment to Dee... Your comment shows how bitter and judgemental you presently are. These comments are what hold other people back from achieving their potential. I hope others don't let you hold them back or make them feel bad, and that they see you for what you are. "How do you keep a crab in a bucket? I don't think she has really changed that much. Yes the hair and makeup is a change but its also for a photo shoot. I think the biggest change is now she can shop at department stores rather than thrift shops.
I agree it is for a photo shoot and all the other celebrities doll it up too. I guess that anyone who has ever dyed their hair or covered the grey after forty has had a make over too. Nobody wants to address that. She has to do that and all the men and women who act, do concerts, do Broadway, are on TV have hair and makeup. Big deal. Susan is no exception.

So does this mean you won't be running into Susan when you go shopping. Aren't you being alittle catty?
I just love the new haircolor, cut and make up! Wow! All perfect for her face and skin types!
