Curves Cropped, Kelly Clarkson Appears In Fitness Mag

SELF's Editor-in-Chief Lucy Danziger told ETonline.com that "of course" they touch up photos to make needed "corrections" before publishing.
"SELF magazine inspires and informs our 6 million readers each month to reach their all around best," Danziger said. "Kelly Clarkson exudes confidence, and is a great role model for women of all sizes and stages of their life. She works out and is strong and healthy, and our picture shows her confidence and beauty. She literally glows from within. That is the feeling we'd all want to have. We love this cover and we love Kelly Clarkson."
Clarkson's change in physique has received plenty of ink in recent months, primarily due to comments by the singer herself.
In the SELF interview, she tries to explain her weight gain: "Sometimes I eat more; sometimes I play more. I'll be different sizes all the time. When people talk about my weight, I'm like, 'You seem to have a problem with it; I don't. I'm fine!' I've never felt uncomfortable on the red carpet or anything."
In June, she bristled at all the fat jokes she receives, telling an Australian radio show that, "I love my body. I'm very much OK with it. I don't think artists are ever the ones who have the problem with their weight, it is other people."

Hey gigg134,
What can I say, truth hurts doesn't it? How about a little originality? Is there an independent thought in that head of yours? Any cretin can reiterate someone elses words. First of all, you only eat twice a day. Your body is in starvation/conservation mode most of the day. Anything you do eat gets stored as bodyfat. Add that with your purportedly stressful life and you have a recipe for a Grimace-shaped body(You know, the purple charater at your favorite eatery). You need to eat 5 to 6 small meals every day in addition to regular exercise. Your arrogance and ignorance is truly shocking. You mentioned being a single parent and home-schooling. Unless you are a widower, you apparently made a bad choice for a husband, didn't you? Are you a college garduate? Do you have a teaching certificate? Somehow I doubt it. Call me cynical. What makes you think you can educate your absent fathered children better than trained professionals? All you're doing is raising social misfits with a sub-standard education who have no idea how the real world works. You're setting them up for failure. Just like your failure to maintain a healthy and aesthetically pleasing body fat percentage. I'd bet money that you have passed on your idiotic eating habits to your kids as well. How fat are they? Let me guess, you descibe them as "big boned" don't you? Are your mad yet? Mad enough to change and stop wallowing in denial? I won't hold my breath. Just do the world a favor and stop procreating. There are enough morons diluting the gene-pool as it is.
"SELF magazine inspires and informs our 6 million readers each month to reach their all around best," Danziger said. "Kelly Clarkson exudes confidence, and is a great role model for women of all sizes and stages of their life."
Danziger should be a polititian. Way to avoid the question. If she really believed her own words, then why the need to change Kelly Clarkson's appearance? Why the need to show Kelly Clarkson as someone other than who she is?

It's not photoshopped, it's the white jeans hiding her hips and it's her posture. She is raising her chest which is making her stomach seem flatter.
And Candice, she's not fat, just because she has some gut does not make her fat!!!

Kelly definitely looks like she has not missed a single meal EVER! As a matter of fact she appears to be one rib short of the full pig !
WHAT A DISGUSTING-NO TALENT PIG!

Look, Clarkson maybe a celebrity. She is a very good singer...but heck like so many of us...she needs to watch her calories, watch what she eats and do some excercize. Simple as that. And she isn't even all that fat, what 30 pounds? She'd look great!

Kelly Clarkson is FINE the way she is. If she doesn't plan on dropping pounds she should NOT wear the small tight clothing that she does because they make her look like an elephant. On the other hand, A HEALTHY diet and EXERCISE everyday are necessitys in everyones life. they should not hav3e her on a fitness magazine be3cause she obvioiusly isn't doing anything fit clothing wise or exercisewise.

will all you fat women just shut up and loose some weight their hardly any women worth looking at any more. you think as soon as you find a man to marry you that its ok to start stuffing your self. then you start cryin g when your man finds another woman. so stay out of the refgig and thin down .

Everyone here who keeps saying that you should basically die at size 14 needs some reality. There is a difference between being seriously and unhealthy overweight, and a size on some pants. I had a friend in high school with a flat stomach and sexy long legs, I was shockeddd to find out she wore a size 14, you never, ever do know !!! As far as society they will always be divided into those who appreciate women who are not all bones, and those who want the skinny girl, its the unfortunate and current nature of the beast! Media and different cultures have a lot to do with it, BUT if the media started showcasing actresses in hot new pilots who worse a size 8 and not a 0, I bet you things would change! Take a look for example at the old tv show 90210 and the new 90210 the girls look different- theres about a 30 pound difference. While in 1991 it was acceptable to be a size 6, 8 and represent a hot sexy LA girl, nowadays the Kelly Taylors of the world are put to "shame" by the new crop of starlets who cant even get a job without fitting into a size 0. Which brings me to Kelly, obviously shes gained weight, but she doesnt look bad at all, and obviously this is how she feels comfortable currentley so ppl need to f off. Seriously there are serious problems out there in the world, its not like the girl is obesese!! Focus on real issues affecting the world, instead of how Self photoshopped yet another cover, seriously who cares?!!!

Amen sister... When the TV show "Burn Notice" first aired and the main character's femal sidekick came on-screen, I about fell over she was so emaciated. They have her parading around the screen like some sort of sex-goddess.
On a separate note, this whole current mentality is also incredibly double standard-ish since even the truly fat, slobbish men expect to land themselves a Barbie look-alike and reject someone who is above a size 2... how moronic.
Just leave her alone..her talent is not in her ass. She is a good singer and deserves more than the nasty comments she is always getting about her weight. Maybe she likes to eat more than a salad and a cigarette for lunch..

IN America it seems that we still haven't got it through to advertising companies that most American's don't have size 2 bodies. If she is fine with her size 8? Who cares? Why fake it? I personally come from the older generation that think we should be fit so I am, But I won't starve myself to have the ripped six pack. I still look great and won't let magazines tell me different.

Candice, your big, fat ignorance is showing. Each person has their ideal and healthy body image - some people are naturally thin and others tend to be not so much. While I agree that some folks are the way they are due to less than commendable habits, people with ignorant attitudes like yours have perpetuated many of the health issues we see today. People taking extreme measures to try and conform to such uneducated expectations of others end up messing up their body's own natural systems and rhythms. It has also taken a huge toll on the mental health of our general population - when unrealistic expectations are out there for people to look like emaciated waifes and then folks end up not being able to meet the expectation regardless of what they do, not only do they consider themselves failures, they also deem themselves undesirable and unworthy. Adding to that, responses from hateful and rude people like you 'confirm' their feelings. Hope you're proud of yourself, Candice.

I would hardly say she is fat, she is healthy. You can tell it wasn't photoshopped anyway, look at her face, she obviously lost weight. Hasn't anyone ever gone up and down when dieting? Could that be, perhaps, what is going on with her? Anyway, re: the comment about size 8 being "unhealthy for an average height", this is a ridiculous statement. Everyones bodies are different. Some people are just naturally skinny, but it doesn't make them unhealthy. Its all about your metabolism. I know people who could eat an entire pizza and not gain an ounce.

This is why we have eating disorders in this world. People are so wrapped up in how others look it is pathetic. I suffered with anorexia half of my life and am finally in recovery.. What if she has an eating disorder?? Do you realize how badly these comments in the media affect and trigger someone with an eating disorder????

I love, love, love Kelly Clarkson. It is quite evident that there definitely was some major photoshopping of this SELF cover, having seen her in concert recently. All magazines photoshop, which they definitely shouldn't, but they do. I wish Kelly had demanded she wouldn't be on the cover unless they kept her true size, but I'm sure she was just happy to be on the cover that it didn't matter all that much, especially knowing she was very forthcoming in her interview regarding her weight struggles, and the struggle most women (and men) deal with on a daily basis. Regardless of her body, Kelly is beautiful inside and out, and a phenomenal singer!

"Wacko Jackos" body isnt even cold yet, and the media found someone else to destroy. I say we turn the tables and out them for what they are...when they use your position to deliberately destroy another human being, they earned their place outside the door, instead of sitting at the 'human table', burping and wiping your nose on your sleeve. When someone feels compelled to ignore the talent and point to the weakness it usually just points to their own insecurity. Ignore these dirt bags, and they slither away.

I think what the magazine/Kelly did was just terrible... if they feel that "Kelly Clarkson exudes confidence, and is a great role model for women of all sizes ...." then why retouch her at all.
On the contrary, this magazine is saying you can be confident and be a great role model IF you are this size and complexion - not THAT size or complexion.
I'll never buy SELF.
