ABC Exec Takes Jab at Heigl

Katherine Heigl's penchant for speaking her mind has gotten her into trouble with the 'Grey's Anatomy' staff a few times in the past, the latest of which was when she said on 'Letterman' that 17-hour shoots were "cruel and mean." Heigl then said she was venting because she hoped "it embarrasses them." And now ABC entertainment president Steve McPherson is here to hit back at little miss Izzy.

During a press tour in Pasadena, McPherson told critics that Heigl's recent and past words are "unfortunate," saying that "people are going to behave in the way they choose to behave."

McPherson went on to say that despite Heigl's gripes, "there are so many people who work so hard on 'Grey's,' and all of our shows, without any notoriety and those are the ones I'd be concerned about, people who feel like they're being criticized or looked down upon."

Following her complaints last month, 'Letterman' went on to reference that if Heigl was working that long, her character Izzy likely isn't dead -- which would be a good thing to most actors. Heigl responded with what seemed like another shot at the 'Anatomy' crew, saying: "What if, however, Dave, I was in a bed in a coma for 17 hours. They could do that to me."

Heigl took some serious heat from the press in 2008 after she withdrew her name from Emmy contention, saying that she wasn't "given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination ... I did not want to potentially take away an opportunity from an actress who was given such materials." Reading behind the lines: She thought her role and scripts were bad, and publicly blasted the writers for it.

Didn't she think her big screen performances were not Oscar worthy? I didn't think they were, I don't think any of the gigs she does are good. The roles are wasted on a horrible actress, a very stupid one too who should know better than to bite the hand that feeds.

With unemployment the way that it is she should be lucky she has a job. All the people that Grey's employees. Most of which are proud of the work that they do. She really needs to keep her mouth shut.

Its a shame she has to publicly "vent" her displeasure. Personally, I think it takes away from her beauty, which now appears to be superficial. She hasn't made but one movie that I liked (27 Dresses), and that role wasn't Oscar or Emmy award winning either. I hope she will learn to be more thankful and think before she speaks.

Considering the money that these actors make, those "cruel and mean" 17 hour shoots are justifiable. Many people work very long hours for meager pay and without all the glamour. She should count her blessings and keep her mouth shut or leave the show. There are plenty of actresses that would be more than happy to take her place.

I guess this can happen when you go from a no body to a semi-somebody... well you're on your way to has-been. I do hope they get rid of her, she won't make it on her own.

Jiminy Cricket, is she whining AGAIN? She's right, Emmy material she ain't. Let's see, what stellar motion pictures has she been in? "13 Dresses, Knocked Up..." Guess she won't be Oscar material in this lifetime either. Instead of complaining, she should be glad her good looks keep her working, it sure isn't due to her talent or disposition. By the way, I stopped watching Grey's because I couldn't STAND the character of Izzy or Heigl's scenery chewing. And I heard somewhere else that the 17 hour work day was due to Grey's accomodating her other commitments in promoting her latest movie.

Someone needs to show her a list of other ingrate actors before her. A "Whatever happened to" list. Beauty fades (especially with her chain smoking) and age plays a big factor for women. She indeed faces challenges~ the biggest one is GRATEFULNESS!

I agree with Hugh/ She's David Caruso in a dress.
She seems ungreatful and full of herself. Just like David was. He thought he was all that and bombed in the "movies" He's lucky he's goth this role. it took a long timg to get back. in "Just TV". Her ego is so big she cant see the forrest for the trees. I used to like her but with that attitude she is just another spoiled starlet.

They should just fire her! I am so sick to death of hearing her complain about what she does. Greys Anatomy gave Katherine her big break, so why is she complaining about it now? Plus she makes big money for what she does. I know people who work 17 hour days or more for a small fraction of what she earns on what? like six months of work for greys before they go on hiatus? Plus they have catering people to wait on them virtually hand and foot......I'm not saying that actors do not work hard, but come on! Stop your whining, even if it is in jest. It's not cute or amusing, its annoying!

Katherine H is a wonderful actress and she was correct that her lines didn't warrant being nominated. It clearly demonstrated how unselfish she was to decline and her honesty & outspoken ability lands her in trouble. She was definately on the money..."poor lines were written for her" and she is a gifted actress. I'd like to see more dramatic lines written for her. Stop criticizing her for letting you know what she thinks., we the public are thinking it anyway. If you loose Katherine you loose a major contributor to the show.
