Newton-John's Ex-Lover Alive and, Well, Wants to Be Left Alone

The case of the missing Olivia Newton-John ex-lover may be solved, if newly surfaced fax messages are to be believed.

A letter faxed on behalf of Patrick McDermott, missing since a 2005 fishing trip in California, declares that the cameraman is indeed alive and well, but relays his wishes for everyone to stop looking for him.

His disappearance left his 'Grease'-starring girlfriend heartbroken and fueled speculation he faked his death to avoid crushing debts.

Via Britain's Daily Mail, the message sent to private investigators reads: "Pat has asked that I portray to you his innocence. Pat has committed no crime. Pat simply wishes to be left alone. Let him live his life in peace and harmony. He is safe and has started anew again in a new place both physically and mentally."

McDermott vanished near San Pedro, Calif. in 2005 and was believed to have drowned after falling overboard. Yet there have been numerous sightings of him in Mexico, where he is said to be working as a yacht deckhand in the drifter-friendly town of Sayulita.

NBC's 'Dateline' hired Philip Klein -- a private investigator -- to look into McDermott. Klein believes Newton-John's ex faked his death in order to avoid debts and allow his son to benefit from a life insurance policy.

Investigators were hired to find McDermott, who reportedly owes child support for his teenage son with ex-wife, actress Yvette Nipar.

The fax asks those involved to "stop this search immediately" but the Daily Mail and investigators aren't revealing who sent the message.

According to the Daily Mail, he obtained a second passport with his birth name, Patrick Kim, and emptied out his life savings before vanishing.

Newton-John had been dating McDermott for nine years. She has since married businessman John Easterling.

I agree with you totally! What he did was just as bad as suicide. He is a very selfish person & took the loser way out of his money issues. So unfair to his children as well! I wish him what goes around comes around he doesn't deserve PEACE!

I also had questions on this one. The fact that he owes child support is the reason that his wishes should not be agreed to. The child did not ask to be born and does need to be supported. The man is a creep pure and simple.

What the media says is usually part of the truth or none at all. First we don't know if these faxes are bogus or not. And if it true, how do we know that the family did not know he was alive, but had to go through the media since he was in the spot light. We don't know if the child has gotten child support or if that was the real reason for his disappearance. Don't judge someone until the WHOLE truth is known and you can't count on the media for that. Remember the saying" there are 3 views to the truth "yours, mine and the one"

OMG! Patrick 'whatever his name is,' is a dirty rotten scoundrel - and that's putting it nicely! I agree with 'Kim.' He should be found & put thru hell, like he did to those around him who cared. And especially for what he did to Olivia N-J - why should anyone give a good God damn what he wants. He didn't have that consideration for those that he hurt. Why should he just be let off the hook with one bold statement of "Leave me alone." I say, find him, follow him for the next 5 years and make him wish he was dead.

I had a brother who took his life too many bills...I wish he were alive any where! I know its easy to say what we would do..Ive said it a thousand times. But there is a point of breaking. We miss him terribly but his one and only son got a large sum of money way more than if hed payed child support. But hed give it all back to have his Daddy back. Try not to be so quick to judge.
