Miley's TCA Pole Dance Too Much?

During the performance, 16-year-old Cyrus -- sporting Daisy Duke-esque short shorts -- danced and at one point, did a bit of a pole routine atop a push-cart.
Miley even used her Twitter to reference the dance, which had some people comparing her to Britney Spears and her racy performances. "For all the people calling me the "next Britney" THANK U. I couldn't ask for a better compliment :)," Cyrus said on one Tweet.
The Los Angeles Times rated Miley's dance as one of the worst moments of the night, saying she went "too far (and too low)." The Times goes on to say that Cyrus' performance with "the too-short shorts, the exposed bra and, oh yeah, the stripper pole on the ice cream truck" overtook the song.

Has anyone been to the mall lately? Most teenage girls are wearing similar clothing and I'll bet some of their parents are the ones complaining about Cyrus' performance. I would be more upset about the girls prostituted in beauty pageants by their mothers than this so-called "pole dance". Obviously, none of the L.A. Times writers have ever been to a club where a real pole dance occurred. By the way, has anyone noticed that Miley, et al were performing in front of a mobile home? A tribute to Britney Spears (a.k.a. trailer trash)?

as a teenage girl i can definitely tell you when you walk into school, that is not normal. she has a ton of influence over young girls, and she walks on a stage like that? i dont want to see five year olds dancing like she did! she really should have been more modest. i mean, at least cover up your bra and DON'T dance by the pole. honestly...
Being a teen myself, we don't wear short shorts and expose our bra, possibly the handful do but not every teen, this is not normal. It's mostly stereotyped.

She should realize that little girls at ages 13 and below look up to her, right now it looks like she's supporting partying in trashy clothing, I don't want to see my little cousins doing this.
All you girls saying your a teenager and thats not normal are crazy. You walk down a high school hall you see clevage bras short shorts and all that. She is uder a spotlight so i understand that she should be a little more conservative but it is also called the TEEN choice awards not kids choice.
ummm I'm 16 and I can tell you that no one could wear that outfit to the the mall. NO one wears tight short shorts like that maybe short shorts but not tight spandex and have their bra hanging out. THe people you saw were probably in their twenties
I feel you might agree with me Bob when I say "what nerve does the media have to pose that question when they perpetuate it everyday?" I read these blogs and always find that we live in very judgemental world - filled with people that pose a question under the guise of concern, when in truth they are really jealous and unhappy themselves. Mileys performance was not a "strip tease". She stepped on top of an ice cream cart. Yet, someone has cleaverly reverted to the use of photoshop to crop the cart out. *sighing* really, I am so fed up with this. Did we all forget the lens capturing the images on your TV is a filter. It filters out anything that won't produce any cash, and shows you the stuff that will get you judging and talking. People! Take care of YOUR kids! Be a role model to the children in YOUR family. Stop watching smut on YOUR televisions! Better yet, stop letting the television, toys, gameboys, x-box's, and computers raise YOUR children while you spend time doing God knows what....and, let me not forget, judging someone elses family through the television. It's really not necessary.
wow i guess
I'm 65, and I agree with Bob that it wasn't much of a pole dance. Madonna did much worse than this in her performances, some VERY distasteful, but she's still a renowned performer. In this business, you've gotta sell yourself to stay on top, and that's what Miley does. Even Britney's coming back to the top, in spite of her horrible personal year or two. Miley's popular, and I hope she can stay above the fray that popular celebrity status so often brings.
I agree with Bob. Every teenage girl from the moment they turn 13 is dressing like this. They go to the movies or to eat like this. Its how everyone is dressing these days. Its not just Miley. She's being an average 16 yr old teenage girl. I don't really think the exposed bra helped, she could have done something with that, that made it trashy and she didn't exactly do a stripper dance. i don't understand what the big talk is. You really should go in clubs or bars and see how the girls are dancing, Miley's was very VERY tasteful.
thanks for your comments....ladies (moms) and guys (dads) keep your daughters home from the mall..BOB is cruising looking for them....
I'm not sure what schools you girls go to but I see this everyday. The bra strap wouldn't be allowed in school and in the mall it would be flashy but she wouldn't be getting verbally stoned like she is here. Being a teenage boy I might be a little bias but she is a professional performer and this is her job. btw i live in a upper-middle class neighborhood so its not a hood or anything where i'm seeing this. Just listen to some music or take arms against something really offensive
its so true. it was not a pole dance and there are alot of young girls who have worn outfits like this before she did. ive seen 6th graders wearing these horrible outfits people should look at there family before they judge miley cyrus. we cant stop people dressing like this but we can stop giving them attention over this. im in the 8th grade and i would never dress like this its unappealing.
Thats what its like being a teen in America today. Pop culture icons like Madonna, Britney Spears, and Rianna dress like this every day. Sixteen is a young age to be so outgoing but shes the daughter of a country music legend. Her life doesn't even compare to most of ours. If we as the parents of our sixteen year olds aloowed them to dress like that it would be our faults not Miey's. As far as the pole comment. I didn't see anything wrong with it. This is why American's are viewed across the globe as being prude's. Great song Miley, loved your performance. :-)
That was not pole dancing, that was something to hold of to, you obviously havent been to a strip club cause that would be "pole dancing" All you parents that think your high school kid is a perfect little angel may wanna wake up and come back to todays time. thats what girls wear to school these days. You have to realize shes 16 years old shes not a little kid
I totally agree with u.. besides miley really didnt do anything wrong its not like she came up with those dance moves they are choreographed .. right
Number one I live in a 1978 mobile home that we purchased new in 1978. I have raised 2 Kids not to mention all the other kids that have frequented our home. None of mine or any of the other kids wore clothes like that, never danced like that here (and my children had a lot of parties), and the girls as you say did not act like trailer trash. We lost our teenage daughter at the age of 15 in a car accident. She go in trouble when she was at resort when she was 14 because I let her and a friend go to the pool alone. She was suppose to come tell me when she was going somewhere else(she didn't). When I found her and her friend they were like 2 year olds again. They could not go any where without me by their side. She and you are whats wrong with society. She is a business that she should think before she does. You should think for a little while before saying it is ok. This is what gets young girls and boys in trouble.
Damn if you have ever been to new york city in the bronx that is normal clothing i wouldnt call it innapropriate
Being a 16 year old girl I honestly agree with most of the previous comments... girls dress like that all the time nowadays and its not just because of Miley's influence on them. Society has made it acceptable through the past decade of media. Also, I don't think anybody who commented negatively about her "pole dance" knows what a real pole dance is because from what I saw, she was simply singing next to a pole. As for her clothing however, I do think she should have at least made sure her bra wasn't hanging out.
Great performance Miley =]
I see nothing inappropreate about Ciley's dancing, she was holding onto a pole on top of a moving cart for gosh sakes.. I do think she could have put on a few more clothes, like at least a full top..
If anyone REALLY watched the Teen Choice Awards, then they would have known without any doubt that Miley Cyrus did NOT perform a so called pole dance.
Part of the props used were an old fashioned Ice Cream Cart and they attached a pole on the cart so that Miley was able to hold onto it for SAFETY REASONS as the cart was being moved around while she was standing on it and singing!
This just goes to show how IRRESPONSIBLE THE MEDIA IS SENSATIONLIZING SOMETHING THAT DID NOT EXIST!!!!!
As for those who claim she danced in an un-Lady like fashion.......it is quite obvious that they did NOT watch the show and are only commenting on what they read. That only makes them stupid and ignorant because they had no first hand knowledge of what went on.
I am a 58 year old Lady who watched the show with my Nieces and Nephews and if I thought there was anything that was inappropriate for them to see, my hand was on the remote and the channel would have been changed immediately or switched.
