Now we know why 'American Idol' producers were playing frugal when it came to Paula Abdul ... they were saving that cash bundle for their star judge. Simon Cowell is finalizing a deal with FOX to keep those ascerbic comments coming through 2011, and his payout is reported to be a gigantic $45 million a year -- up from $36 million under his current contract. Paula Abdul reportedly wanted a measly $10 million a year.

Robert Sillerman, head honcho at CKX, the parent company of 'Idol'-producing 19 Entertainment, told the Hollywood Reporter on Monday that "obviously" they green lit FOX's efforts to secure Cowell.

"We've heard from Fox, who has asked us for approval for Simon Cowell to appear for three more years on 'Idol,'" Sillerman said.

"They, in their negotiations with Cowell, have asked us to pre-approve him not only for 'American Idol' '09, which has begun taping, but they have also asked us for approval for '10 and '11, indicating to us that they're finishing their negotiation with Cowell. We did grant approval for that quite obviously."

FOX and Cowell have not commented on the deal or the reported amount. His current contract runs out after the current season.

Fans of the show will likely be pleased to hear Cowell will be sticking around for a few more years, and may not care much about how much he receives (everyone agrees he deserves big bucks).

But one person who might be bristling at the news is Cowell's former colleague, Paula Abdul, who left the show last week after negotiations for a pay raise fell through. Sources say Abdul was itching for a $6 million pay raise -- from $4 to $10 million a year.

You can see why it is still a MAN's world. Simon is so not worth 45 million dollars. I cannot believe he did not fight for Paula, and got rid of that Skank Kara. The show will be all but done after this season because NO-ONE including myself will be watching.
I really hope this just a publicity stunt and Paula will return to the show.

Absolutely ridiculous anyone making that kind of money. All of these so-called stars receiving these outrages salaries is obscene. How many millions do they need. AI's rating will suffer from all of this negative publicity.

Kim, Kim, Kim. Clerking at the local convenience store doesn't generate the kind of value that a Simon does. We all make EXACTLY what we're worth. When you -- or I -- are able to draw in millions of viewers and thus able to sell millions of dollars in ad revenues, then we too will be worth millions of dollars in compensation. I agree with you -- there ARE much better ways to spend millions of dollars than paying judges on talent shows, but until this nation quits spending billions on Halloween crap and "name brand" clothing and blow up yard decorations at Christmas time and junk food that makes us sick and fat and lazy, until we individually quit throwing our own money away on worthless garbage, then we are in no position to rail against smarter, more talented, more ambitious people who make millions. They took the risk. We didn't. Too bad.

Simon would be getting $45 million should he sign another contract for the next three years after this, right now, he's making $9million per year. Let's not haggle, what is Randy making? Why is Paula's fee compared only to Simon and Ryan's, not Randy's? Simon Cowell introduced, produced and signs the contestants, where does Paula think that she's worth that much? She's a judge, nothing more! She didn't introduce this show, produce or direct this show, she's to sit and give her immature, incoherent critiques and show her disturbing and digusting oozing of the male contestants. Greed, over her contract of a few million and was offered a contract of $10 million per year for three years, she's lucky to have been offered that and offered to return to the show. She cooked her own irresponsible, greedy and immature goose!

American Idol has bought families together, it's riviting in seeing whom would win the title and at times, it has you on your seat. Thank you Simon Cowell for introducing AI, SYTYCD, America's Got Talent, Inventors and so many other reality shows.
I do enjoy listening to IL Divo, Chris Daughtery, and Paul Potts, whom are signed under Simon's label, SYCO.
Paula Abdul is totally immature, rediculous in thinking she's worth more than Simon Cowell and should get what she asks for. She has been a disgrace to intelligent, professional women, her incoherent remarks and oozing over the young male contestants is very disturbing and disgusting, she certainly has been lucky to have been kept on the show this long. She was introduced to the job, but her inept actions have led to them not going to negotiate with her, she should be grateful to have had this position this long! Greed and immaturity are her own doing in not being a judge on Idol, she's her own worse enemy! Paula does need to get over herself, stay behind the scenes, sell her jewelry on QVC/HSN, and GROW UP!!!

45 million.....no entertainer is worth that much......however; if you consider the cost to have one person watch AI because of Simon is very realistic. His evaluations of contestants usually right on......no hoop te do like the other no talent judges. Do I like Simon?...not really....do I respect his ability..right on...if you are not the lead dog then all you see is butts...
Simon is the lead dog...learn to live with it.

With Simon's salary, that closet case QUEEN OF ENGLAND should be able to purchase some nice shirts instead of those ugly cheap ass dirty tee shirts he wears. He thinks he looks good in them. I heard that Simon Cowell makes $100,000,000.00 (ONE HUNDRED MILLION PER YEAR). This is out rageous & no one deserves to make that much per year. There are people in the world starving, homeless, losing their homes, their jobs, the economy is struggling while these greedy people rake in the money just for doing hardly anything (at least no physically hard labor) . Simon is a critical bastard too. The only nice thing I have to say about the man is he donates to P.E.T.A. People for the ethical treatment of animals & other animal charities.
