Abbie Cornish: Early Days of Phillippe Romance Were 'Difficult'

Actress Abbie Cornish, the star of Jane Campion's new period picture 'Bright Star' and girlfriend of actor Ryan Phillippe, talked to W at great length about her upcoming projects - but was slightly less forthcoming when it came to her personal life. When asked if she spent much time with Phillipe's two young children with Reese Witherspoon, Cornish offered only: "Yes, of course" - and had even less to say on the topic of her possible engagement to the actor (simply "No").

Cornish, who was working with Phillippe at the time of his separation from Witherspoon, was widely assumed to be the cause of their split. In the interview, Cornish describes enduring that situation and makes us believe a historical romance based on John Keats' life might actually appeal to a mainstream audience. On Los Angeles: "I guess I was lucky because it was love that brought me here, not work. I think the city feels and looks a little bit different because of that."

On press attention at the start of her relationship: "It was a really difficult time for me. It was just this world of tabloid magazines that I'd never been exposed to. In a normal successful career, someone usually learns these things bit by bit. For me, it was like night and day. I woke up one day and there was this whole new thing I had to process and deal with."

On the appeal of 'Bright Star': "People seemed to love it. They seemed to absorb what you hoped they would absorb... It was just beautiful,. You melted away into that world. The love story, the loss... that all felt very real to me and very alive.

On filming Zack Snyder's big-budget picture 'Sucker Punch': "It's a little bit scary. But the intensity and focus of it is what I enjoy. It's not like you put your toe in the water and wade around a little. You just dive in the deep end, swim around and then come out the other side. I like that feeling."

I'm not sure she should say anything about her and Ryan's relationship given how it started. It's always wrong to interfere in a marriage, whether it's crumbling or not. You don't need to be an additional catalyst. Of course Ryan is the main person to blame, he could have kept his pants zipped. I have little regard for people who start a thing while the other person is married, it totally disrespects the state of marriage. I don't think Abbie is as bad as Sienna Miller, but still.

Abbie is homewrecker, period! She wrecked the marriage between Reese and Ryan. Granted, they were having problems, but maybe they would have worked it out. This homewrecker stepped in and did whatever it took to get Ryan. Well, she has him and he'll cheat on her too, just wait. Once a cheater, always a cheater. Besides, Reese found a much better man in Ryan and they are totally happy together! :)

I think Ryan was sick of tighta*s Reese and found this girl with the giant head to be a lot nicer to him. Reese always seemed in interviews to be saying that her way, her opinion, was the only moral or "perfect" way to think or behave. I'm sure that got oppressive. Ryan's the one who took the vow of fidelity, not Abby, but I still think she should have held out for a single man or at least one without 2 kids counting on their daddy to preserve their family.

Can't say if Abbie and Ryan are head over heels in love but Angelina and Brad certainly are. I guess that saying , "All's fair in love and war" still applies. Regardless, Feelings are neither right nor wrong they just are!
