Dion's Doc: Her New Baby Came From 8-Year-Old Frozen Egg

Not only is Celine Dion pregnant at the age of 41, the child that she has conceived was from an embryo that the music star had frozen eight years ago.

Dion's doctor, Dr. Zev Rosenwaks, tells PEOPLE that he performend the in vitro fertilization for Celine's pregnancy, and that when he informed her that the pregnancy had taken, he "could hear her chuckling" with joy. "She was very happy. So was René [Angelil, her husband]. They are both very thankful."

Dion had her embryos frozen while the couple was trying to conceive their first child together, Rene-Charles. Rene was born in 2001, and years later in 2009, the frozen embryos were still good to use.

"She came back to have the embryos transferred back because she wanted to have another baby," Rosenwaks says. The doctor says that "there have been embryos that have been [frozen] for more than 10 years, and even more than 15 years, that have successfully thawed and resulted in a pregnancy," so Dion's eight year timeframe was of no major concern.

Rosenwaks says Dion "is feeling well. So far, so good. I look forward to hearing the fetal heartbeat. Rene and Celine are both looking forward to pregnancy that is a healthy one."

First of all-how could she be a gold digger when she has earned their BILLIONS??? Secondly, I believe the embryos where frozen when her husband was diagnosed with cancer. Hope nothing like that ever happens to you...or wait...maybe then you might have more compassion.

Jeff, I'm with you. English is the #1 language of the USA. But maybe the person that responded lives overseas. Don't know if this would be the case, but if they are in the US.....Only English should be spoken on the American soil.

Hey Tooni - Just want to mention that the reason his sperm was frozen was because he had cancer and had to undergo chemotherapy which could have left him sterile. I'm quite sure that Rene and Celine have had a wonderful marriage in all respects otherwise they would not have tried invitro. There are too many pompous people out there - people who know not of what they speak. I am happy for the lovely couple who have been together for so many years. Celine would have made it big time with or without Rene but they were fortunate in that they found each other and have a son and another baby on the way. God Bless them.

I don't mean to be rude - but you are not correct! The older a woman gets the more likely she is to have some complications with the pregnancy which can result in some form of retardation/handicap for the child. i.e. downs syndrome etc. Also the older a woman gets the more likely she is to have multiples - twins or triplets - if conception happens naturally. Since this pregnancy is from a frozen embrio I don't think the later would apply. Anyway, I wish them, and you, the best!

The above comment that you made is totally FALSE. Any pregnancy over 40 is considered VERY High Risk. I know that because I had my last son at 43 and my OB told me so. I'm very certain though that Celene and her OB staff will take every measure for her to have a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby. I also had one at 38 and she was considered High Risk. Since my son I had at 43 was my ninth child (eighth living), it DID matter and I went through a lot to assure that he was healthy. First, second, eighth baby and at 23, 33, or 43, there is ALWAYS a chance that something can be wrong. We are never guaranteed a healthy baby, we do all we can to assure it to increase the odds that our child will be born healthy. On that note, I wish Celene a smooth, problem free pregnancy and I wish her and Rene a strong, healthy baby. I will remember them in my prayers.

I made an error when I said his sperm was frozen - evidentally her egg and his sperm were put together to form the embryo - the start of life. That was done years ago and so their baby is that of two people who were much younger when they came together. I think it is a miracle how science and medicine have been able to freeze an embryo to become a living person after being implanted back into the mother's uterus. It is just awesome and beautiful. I simply want to say to them congratulations on your new little one to be. I don't think anyone has a right to cast judgement in a negative way on something lovely, special and glorious for Celine and Rene.
