Dion's Doc: Her New Baby Came From 8-Year-Old Frozen Egg

Not only is Celine Dion pregnant at the age of 41, the child that she has conceived was from an embryo that the music star had frozen eight years ago.

Dion's doctor, Dr. Zev Rosenwaks, tells PEOPLE that he performend the in vitro fertilization for Celine's pregnancy, and that when he informed her that the pregnancy had taken, he "could hear her chuckling" with joy. "She was very happy. So was René [Angelil, her husband]. They are both very thankful."

Dion had her embryos frozen while the couple was trying to conceive their first child together, Rene-Charles. Rene was born in 2001, and years later in 2009, the frozen embryos were still good to use.

"She came back to have the embryos transferred back because she wanted to have another baby," Rosenwaks says. The doctor says that "there have been embryos that have been [frozen] for more than 10 years, and even more than 15 years, that have successfully thawed and resulted in a pregnancy," so Dion's eight year timeframe was of no major concern.

Rosenwaks says Dion "is feeling well. So far, so good. I look forward to hearing the fetal heartbeat. Rene and Celine are both looking forward to pregnancy that is a healthy one."

Listen. I do agree with Jeff on some point. English is the spoken language of THIS country, the USA. I am sick of the people who are here, most of them illegal aliens who do not speak our language. If they can't speak it, get the hell out and stay out. I like Celine Dion and her music, you think that Celine is going to even read numb-nut's post, especially in French? Get over it. If you want to
live in France you must speak French in that country. Same goes for here, English only or else, have them deported. We have too many foreigners here in the USA as it is and we also have foreign senators doing the same, wanting everything for themselves and their FRIENDS. All who are here not English spoken people, get out or get shot.

You guys seriously need to get a grip, back in the 1970's (when it wasn't in vogue to have a late in life child) my mother had my baby sister. My mother was in her 40's (my sister was a shock) and my Father in his late 50's. Not only have they lived to see my baby sister graduate HS and College, but also to have children of her own.
People are living longer and healthier lives, soon women having children at Ms. Dion's age will be the rule instead of the exception.

Personally, I'm 2 years older than Ms. Dion and can't imagine having children at this point, but only because I wouldn't (and Don't) want children..not because I "shouldn't" have them.

Well your precious Micheal wouldn't have his kids w/o IVF so how is that any different??? Did you complain about the way he got his children? Celine comes from a very large family. This kids will have lots of love and support regardless of when they lose their parents Michael left his children in a MESS! And if anything to happens to Rene or Celine Now their son will have a part of them in his sibling! Seriously the stupidity and ugliness on this board. One only have to read it to SEE why and hell this world has gone to hell! Idiolize a pedifile and bash and loving committed couple! God help us!

Thanks, Tricia. Cancer certainly is a legitimate reason for using his frozen sperm, but I also agree with Amy that this is way too private a subject for public discussion. My first thought WAS to wonder what goes on in their sack at night, but see what happens with "news" like this? Shame on me.

I think it gross how much older her husband is compared to her. Especially, the fact he was her MANAGER when she was a young teenager and then she grows up and marries him...seems like there may have been some brainwashing going on there. I mean he is not even an attractive older dude and she is really pretty.

41 is too old? Do you comment when movie stars get pregnant over 40? Molly Ringwald recently ring a bell, and she got a cover in People magazine! My mother was 44 when she had me and lived until she was in her 80's. I never missed out on a thing, unless you call security, common sense, maturity and love missing something. Will they be as young as the teenage mothers, no, but I think I am correct in assuming she at least will alive well into the child's life. God Bless them and best wishes

Love has no age. As a matter of fact, the best relationships are the ones where there is a big age difference. Look at Ashton Kautcher and Demi Moore, they seem great together, Céline and René have been together for more then 10 years, never fought and still looking in love as their first day. And I would also want to and that Céline is from here, she doesn't need a nanny to help bring up her children. She only needs a babysitter when she's singing for us, so working. Who doesn't use a babysitter to go to work??? Some people really should look inside of them and search as to why they are writing such nonsense. We,in Quebec, have a philosophy that says: Vivre et laisser vivre ( live and let live) That's also called FREEDOM.

Ok, had to post this...for all those worried about birth defects, retardation and such, let me put your stress and ugly comments to rest. She FROZE the embryos 9 years ago. Do you worry about someone having a child at 31? Because the DNA was from that period of her life. No genetic transposition takes place once the eggs divide and they did 9 years ago! Most woman who have complications come from eggs over 40, not from previously frozen eggs! Just a little science lesson for the concerned!
