Heiress/actress Paris Hilton will not have to pay $8.3 million in damages for inadequately promoting her 2006 movie 'Pledge This!' a Miami court decided. Hilton was sued by the film's investors for the amount it cost to produce the movie, who argued it would have earned at least that much at the box office with proper promotion by Paris. U.S. District Judge Federico Moreno ruled against the investors on the damages issue, saying that "one never knows how much a movie may make" and remarked that 'Pledge This!' was "hardly destined for critical acclaim".'Pledge This!' made just $2.9 million worldwide, according to court documents. At the trial in July, Hilton testified she did her best to promote the movie, but claimed the movie's producers were amateurs and made last-minute demands for appearances that conflicted with her schedule.
"The court finds compelling evidence in the record that 'Pledge This!' lost money because the film's inexperienced producers hastily cobbled together a wholly inadequate marketing plan," the judge wrote in his decision, according to the Associated Press. "They sent scattershot requests to their principal star in the hopes that she could find time to promote a sinking ship."
Hilton, 28, may still have to return part of the $1 million fee she received for her role in 'Pledge This!' The judge allowed prosecutors until August 26 to submit arguments that Hilton should be obligated to repay the investors, based on how much of the fee was for plugging the film.

So many people are so clueless that they fail at even apathy.
This is a civil suit, there are no prosecutors.

Me thinks filmakers have better things to do than to sue their stars because of their poor business judgement. Hey folks, the movie business is a coin toss. You take the risk, you get the gain, or loss, as in this case.
