Streisand's Ex Auctioning Private Tapes

Barbra Streisand's ex-boyfriend is hoping to make a quick million off the singer by auctioning off tapes of her earliest performances, NY Post reports. With bids starting at $1 million, Barry Dennen is taking a risky move admitting, "I'm a little trepidatious. I don't know what the fallout will be. I don't like upsetting Barbra, and I don't want her fans angry at me."

Dennen said he met Streisand in 1959 as cast mates in the off-Broadway play, 'The Insect Comedy' and became lovers soon after. The two collaborated on a few songs and he has held onto those tapes until now.

According to reports, the tapes include Streisand singing 'A Taste of Honey' and 'Two Brothers' in Dennen's apartment, with him accompanying on guitar.

There's also a Sept. 17, 1960, rehearsal at the Bon Soir nightclub, where Streisand sang 'Keepin' Out of Mischief Now,' 'A Sleepin' Bee,' 'I Want To Be Bad,' 'When Sunny Gets Blue,' 'Lover Come Back to Me,' 'Nobody's Heart' and 'Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?'

After they broke up, she asked for the tapes back, but Dennen refused. "I said 'No. They are the only thing I have left of our collaboration,'" he recalled. Now the private tapes are being auctioned off to the highest bidder on his Web site, MomentsInTime.com. The auction will end on September 24.

A spokesman for Streisand said, "Our lawyers are dealing with this."

Excuse me on the party that is refering to Jon -- "Go cut some hair" is what he stated, from Bill. Bill it's not Jon Peters doing this. This is Barry Dennen. He was helping Barbra break into showbiz in the early days before she became famous. They dated briefly and he used to make demo tapes of her so he could help her with her singing. She really wanted to act but advised her of a talent show they were having at a local place in NYC, possibly the Bon Soir, one of those clubs where she actually won the talent show and from there was discovered from agents. People were blown away from her incredible voice. She may have been around 19 years old. Barry did help her. Jon came around when she was beyond famous in the '70's. Those tapes would be very valuable by now because of her fame and talent. I believe he does have the rights because nothing was ever signed, nothing stated he couldn't keep the tapes. As far as intellectual property rights, I don't think there were legal docs to conclude who actually has the rights to those from back in probably 1962 or earlier. I heard Jon was going to write a tell all book, but that may have been a rumour because knowing Barbra, she would have made it clear years ago, no way on earth. She's too smart.

Barbra Streisand is a singer, music composer, music producer, screen writer, movie producer and director and a very good business woman. You don't do these things successfully, get where she has and stay there for years-- without talent. And as for her voice, if it's not the best voice, then surely it's one of the best singing voices ever. It's a finely tuned musical instrument and the closest thing to classical music in the popular music genre. You could listen to it even without music and still have a complete package. This ex boyfiend had Barbra Streisand and now wants to be paid. Buddy, consider yourself lucky and paid in full. You'll get zero and the court judge will tell you that too.
