Although Simon Cowell is usually difficult to impress, one contestant on UK's 'The X Factor' managed to blow away the judge. 27-year-old Danyl Johnson hit the stage with an energetic performance of The Beatles' 'With a Little Help from My Friends.'

Cowell smiled and clapped during the audition, finally giving a standing ovation.

"That was single-handedly the best first audition I have ever heard," Cowell said.

"He could be one of the best contestants we've ever had," Cowell added.

Moments earlier it had been a completely different story for Cowell, who had stormed out of the arena, disheartened at the sight of a man dressed in a blue gorilla outfit. Searching for an aspirin, he claimed the day had been a "waste of time. Something didn't click today."

They can try to hype up interest all they want but after the Adam fiasco and now Paula not there many of us are OVER American Idol. It wasted my valuable time only to see the wrong person get it AGAIN! BRING PAULA BACK!

without paula, i could care less if i ever see it again.
she was one of the MAIN INGREDIENTS that made it so good. oh well, good things sometimes end.

Very cool performance. If he can get some help from a choreographer to eliminate some of the strange and extraneous "arm-jerk" moves, he could go a long way. (Sometimes his posturing is just distracting, and adds little to the performance. Don't confuse "energy" with "excitement".)

It's kinda "over the top" .. What makes it ok is that's it's a Beatles song.. Simon gets over on alot of ppl with that show.. God Bless 'em.. Is it really worth the attention it got all these years.. At least it's better then rap, and doesn't tell everyone to kill each other.. But art should help society go foward, not stay stagnant or go backwards.. God help this world, we need it!!

this is another out in public example of man being wayyyyyyy more valued than women. the whole idol thing works and has worked well with the 3 judges but to pay either of the other 2 less than simon is rediculous (if the amount is significant) you have to acknowledge his roots in this program but it's not all about him and he should step up and reccomend parity, he would be a better man for it. our entire economy is in trouble because of greed and the bad decisions of management why would idol be any different?

some of that was strong and some filled with sloppy riffs. some off pitch.
SImon is just pushing his new show. American idol without Paula will be like
an Academy Awards show with no best picture Oscar. Randy and Kara's remarks are worthless and uneducated musically. Simon is just a punchline
never constructive always narcissistic. And now we have Kris Allen winning over the great talents of Adam Lambert.. X FACTOR will be the same.. just another diversionary waste of time. .

Paula sucks. She was a total waste to the show. She looked drunk every single time she was at the show. The show is "FIXED". And after this year's finals, I decided, never ever to watch that stupid show again. Adam was ROBBED!!!!

There really was no "Adam fiasco". The problem was his interestingness peaked too early in the show, whereas Kris was able to steadily improve and impress more people each week. No question, Adam has one of the most amazing voices I've ever heard, but Kris's story appealed to more voters. In the end, the fact that Adam was such a "shoe-in" is what cost him the title. It made him boring. However, Adam is better off having come in second and Kris is better off having come in first, because these respective positions suit them better for their potential future careers (Kris will benefit from commercial Idolized hype and Adam can strike out on his own).

I agree that the Idol formula doesn't work without Paula.

As for this guy on X Factor, he has a lot of charisma and is a great performer, but he either couldn't hear the music very well or does not have a good ear. His voice itself sounds nice and he has range, but almost the entire song was not in the same key as the music.

Great to see the kid do so well without help. Can you imagine how he does with some professional training. The world has so many awful things going on. So nice to see that there is something that can make you smile.
