Simon Witnesses 'Best Audition Ever'

Although Simon Cowell is usually difficult to impress, one contestant on UK's 'The X Factor' managed to blow away the judge. 27-year-old Danyl Johnson hit the stage with an energetic performance of The Beatles' 'With a Little Help from My Friends.'

Cowell smiled and clapped during the audition, finally giving a standing ovation.

"That was single-handedly the best first audition I have ever heard," Cowell said.

"He could be one of the best contestants we've ever had," Cowell added.

Moments earlier it had been a completely different story for Cowell, who had stormed out of the arena, disheartened at the sight of a man dressed in a blue gorilla outfit. Searching for an aspirin, he claimed the day had been a "waste of time. Something didn't click today."

Since when did Idol start letting "first" auditions have music and backup vocals? this was NOT a first audition, just in off the street, come on, he was excellent, but it was NOT his first time in front of the judges, just look, there was a huge crowd and all the backups, big stage and all the lights,....come on Cowell, watch what you say.

This actually was his first time auditioning in front of the judges, music and back up vocals allowed because it's not American Idol. It was on the British show the X Factor... different show, different country.

If AI contestants were able to have a first audition with a complete recording of a backup orchestra and gospel singers, I think the outcome would be a hell of a lot different. All of those shows, both in England and USA are extremely manipulative and the viewers are all suckers for getting so sucked in. Wake up, people!

Danyl was excellent in his performance both vocally and his presence on stage. Not bad to look at either. He is alittle over done with the arm movements but that can easily be corrected. Hope his teaching instruction is as good as his performance....if it is as good I hope he doesn't stop teaching....out children need "good" teachers.

Sure they have to make 'teaser' headlines....Idol is in trouble, and shoud be. Hey how about watching something that matters instead of something that's a complete waste of time...say FOXnews over empty head American Idol...

Simon has pushed bad singers for years and gotten away with it. Most rappers/pop singers he pushes can't carry a tune, sings same thing over and over, can't understand a word they are singing. Most pop singers couldn't carry a tune in a bucket, all they do is scream....tired of them and Simon.

I truly believe that Simon and the audience were caught up on the tremendous sound coming from the band, and backup singers. In my opinion, this guy's voice was slightly above average at best.

Wow! What a performance! He was riveting. The perfect song just got better. I'll bet his students are inspired be this teacher that is so full of life. Cant wait to hear him do another Beatles song. He definitely does justice to his work.

Listen to yourselves! You are making about as much sense as Paula herself.....it was time for her to go. Get someone on there that can actually add to the show, not confuse it.

this was only a first audition people, some of u expect these people to sound like professionals, many of them have only been singing in church or in high school or for family and friends. get some one from motown to help judge. they really know what singing is suppose to sound like and give these people tools they can use.

Take out the back up singers and see how he does. Then decide.
