For 20 straight weeks, the Black Eyed Peas have remained No. 1 atop the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, first with 'Boom Boom Pow' for 12 weeks and now 'I Got a Feeling.' That 20 weeks is a new Billboard record, but BEP architect Will.I.Am wants you to recognize what 20 weeks actually means. "Let's break it down for what it really is: five mother-f---ing months," he tells PopEater.Will.I.Am notes that the achievement is something none of their musical heroes have done in the 51-year history of the Billboard charts. "Every creative person wants to do it bigger than the last creative person cause you're inspired by them, you're fans of them," he says. "But to beat Elvis' record, Michael Jackson's record, the Beatles' record, Rolling Stones' record -- that's crazy, dude."
It's so crazy he admits it's a little hard not to let the success go to his head. "It makes you want to be cocky and it's hard not to. When I say cocky, it makes you want to ego out," he says. "But you don't. Being pampered could f---k you up. If you're being babied all the time, it strips you away from your manhood which is your creativity. We got to this place because at one point in time we were fighting for something. I don't want luxury to strip us away from reaping other levels of success."

BEPeas are great. They're songs have continued to get better and better over the years. I keep comming back for more. I am waiting on the edge of my seat for the next huge song from the BEPeas. Keep it up. You are a very refreshing ray of light after the down side of M. Jacksons demise.
PS Ferggie: I don't lie... you are so adorable!
It really says something about how horrible today's popular music is when a bubblegum pop/hiphop group like the Black eyed peas stay at number 1 for 5 months. I hope they realize it's because the music today sucks, and not because they make good music (because they don't)
Reply
I totally agree with you!
I don't even listen to the radio anymore because of it! What happened to music ARTISTS?? there's nothing but PUPPETS out there trying to say (or should I say lip sync??) that they are artists!
Music does suck these days.Mediocre, meaningless overproduced pop drivel!! If the Black Eyed Peas are the best the music world has to offer these days then it's sad indeed! :-(
Exactly...music today sucks and has basically sucked since the end of 90s. 1980s were the best..u wann know why? Think about it most 80s artists were UGLY..i mean you look at some 80s vidoes and you are like yikes! But the music was good [ because they were not going to win you with looks] then towards the mid to end of the 90's image started taking a priority and since then its been about being cute and sexy to distract from the fact that the music sucks. BEP suck if you ask me ad Fergie alone is absurd..stupid songs..stupid lyrical content. For Will-i-jerkoff to say he out did Elvis, MJ or Beatles is criminal and he will NEVER be in their league. I dont care what Billboard says. Today's youth is so stupid to buy music by BEP. This Billboard stuff is about numbers only NOT about actual Talent.
My God!
Finally people who agree that today's music sucks!!! I too listen to absolutely nothing thats played on the radio. Its terrible....its turned into an 'American Idol' society...wtf...thats nots music it karaoke people and Black -eyed Peas isn't too far off, so yeah thats why they've been of the charts for 5 months. Whatever happen to the true pop tunes of Men at Work, Huey Lewis and the News - that was music, orginality! Heck you might still think that sucks but its still far better than the diarhea thaas played out today~
"We're gonna spoil music for ya"
Anyone who knows the workings of the music business understands that Billboard is a sham. Not to take anything away from the band but seriously it's business, nothing else.

I like Fergie on her own, but the Black Eyed Peas together are not very good, music business has gone downhill

They are an excellent group and deserve success.
If you don't like them, don't listen.
And if someone got in their face and was inappropriate, he was a goon.

To most of the new generation music back then wasn't music. Every generation is going to have their own unique type of music. For this one its Hip Hop/Rap, not long ago it was Rock/Pop. And way back then it was Jazz/Soul.
To add on, who are you to judge what real music is or isn't. Rap or Hip Hop isn't my type of music by I do realize that you need to respect it cause it does take skill to do the artists' jobs even if it may seem simple. Remember you have to come up with your own tune and lyrics for people to notice you, at the same compete with all types of music out there today. Also the competition now is much fiercer than before, more people can look up songs with ease in many forms; so to say that competition is garbage is just plain ignorance.

"Y'all getting hit with (Boom boom)
Beats so big I'm steppin on leprechauns"
and
"I feel stressed out, I wanna let it go, Lets go way out spaced out, And loosing all control."
(and let me remind you that these are difficult to come by considering most of their lyrics are just incohesive words) If these songs are destined to be remembered and be something great then I am sad about the place that music is headed. What are they even talking about? Is there any substance to their music? It certainly doesn't seem that way. I will give it Will.I.Am though, he does come up with some awesome beats. I just wish that he had some lyrics with depth to put to those beats. Then he would be unstoppable.
Thank u for ur comment about todays music. I hate all the hate in peoples comments and lack of appriciation and ignorace for the art. You are so correct in you views of new music. Thanks!
John - thanks for the history lesson in music! - I never knew! you need to realize that "today's so called artists" are not producing real music. come on! almost every rap/hip-hop artist bites off music from songs - what?? from when you say?? oh yeah, 70's, 80's and 90's! so your comment:
"Remember you have to come up with your own tune and lyrics for people to notice you, at the same compete with all types of music out there today." makes NO SENSE! by come up with, do you mean borrow from someone else?? How many of todays artists do you know, write their own music/lyrics?? How many do you know that don't "borrow" from a previously released song?? not many I'm sure. and the ones who do come up with original lyrics like (for example) "my lovely lady lumps" - how ridiculous is that?? any person with any love for real music would agree with me, todays music is crap! The BEP are no exception! to even utter their name in the same sentence as Elvis or the Beatles mortifies me!! But I need to be more clear...there are still great bands out there making great music (Tool, The Black Crowes, Pearl Jam, Mofro, to name a few), just because the radio isn't spewing it out over and over again (like the BEP and the likes of them) doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
you go see the BEP's in concert or any other "today's music" type and believe me, you'll wish you didn't pay for the ticket! Performing live is the true test of talent.
There is no such thing as MUSIC today (at least in rock and roll). R&R used to be so creative and today it's just ripping everyone else off. Rap is crap, but I'll take the Temptations anyday!!!! I haven't listened to a radio station in at least 2 years now. Kids now-a-days just make junk and it sells. Ever since mtv, music has been going downhill. I'd say it's reached the bottom of the hill by now. Does no one have any TRUE creativity out there? It's a good time for the BEP's, but a sad day for rock and roll.

Congrats To the BEP for the 20 weeks at No. 1 A job well done! your the greatest and you Rock!

I never heard of the Black Eyed Peas until I saw them on television. I like their music. I was so excited about that boom boom song, that I told my daughter about it when she got home from work. She has it on CD. when she played it, my grandson, who is 3, knew every word. He was dancing and singing. We had a wonderful time. I feel the Black Eyed Peas put fun back into music.

Way to Go! I'm 60 & love the fun side of this song... It picks me up & makes me laugh in this sad, present day world of NO feelings. I actually sing/hum along w/it. But, then again, I love Harry Potter books/movies. Need I say more? Love a lil' magical fantasy...60 years of reality takes its toll!
When all you eat is fast food, you consider it really good. Once you leave the fast food and eat some authentic, hand made food and go back to fast food, you realize how much the fast food sucks. That's how music is today. BEP is just a whopper amongst all these manufactured pieces of crap. I forgot where I read it but it brought up a good point, if the music industry was like this back in the 60's, would Janis Joplin have made it?
