R&B star Chris Brown has officially been sentenced after pleading guilty to felony assault on Rihanna, as a judge has ordered Brown to serve five years probation and perform six months of community service for his role in the February attack. The 20-year-old Brown will serve out his sentence in his home state of Virginia, and will have to check in frequently with the Los Angeles judge who sentenced him.

In his first communication with the public about the attack this summer, Brown told his fans how sorry he is about the beating incident. "I am very sad and very ashamed of what I have done... I've told Rihanna countless times and I am telling you all today that I am truly, truly sorry that I wasn't able to handle the situation both differently and better. " he said.

Back in April, Brown pleaded not guilty to both assault and criminal threat charges in court.

Brown's manager, Tina Davis, was named by TMZ as the woman behind the text message that sparked his alleged beating of Rihanna. She has since denied the claims, saying: "The rumors in circulation are false. There are no emails between Ms. Davis and Mr. Brown of the type which have been described in media reports."

Court documents revealed that the police report claims Brown allegedly assaulted Rihanna in his car after she discovered a text message on his phone. According to the report, Brown smashed her head against the window, and then punched and bit her.

TMZ obtained a photo that appears to be singer Rihanna, taken shortly after Brown allegedly beat her following a pre-Grammy party. Police have said the woman had visible injuries, and that Brown was gone from the scene when they arrived.

Brown can be seen leaving the police station after being booked. According to police reports, he assaulted Rihanna in the car, and told her "I'm going to beat the s--- out of you when we get home." He also allegedly threatened to kill her after she told her assistant to call the police.

In their cover story, PEOPLE spoke with the father of Rihanna, who says he hopes his daughter is done with boyfriend Brown after his alleged assault. Shortly after, reports that Rihanna and Brown were back together in Miami emerged.

Brown, seen a day before the alleged attack, released a statement on Feb. 15, which read in part, "Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired."

Brown was also ordered to stay 100 yards away from Rihanna during the period of his probation.

Brown assaulted Rihanna during Grammy weekend in February, reportedly punching and beating her inside of his car after an argument. He was arrested hours after the incident, and plead guilty to a felony assault charge in June.

This summer, Brown apologized to fans, saying what he did "was inexcusable," but promised to learn from his mistakes.

I don't think Chris should do anything for Rhianna- He should keep his fists and his bad attitude away from her. She doesn't need that bad aura. Shes beautiful and has alot of talent. Keep away from men for a while.

Depends on how big of a fan the judge is. A few examples: Kobe Bryant rapes a woman and all he has to do is pay her off. Vick has dog fights and kills them he gets 2 years. Who's life is worth more? Donte Stallworth hits someone with his car and kills the and all he gets is 24 hours in jail. Plexico shoots HIS SELF and gets 2 years. WTF kind of justice system do we have in America??.....True story in Huntsville,Al. My brother was arrested for assult cuz he grabbed his girlfriend to stop her from hitting him and got 6 years (2 in jail and 4 on paper). I swear to GOD his lawyer told him "I could have got you less time if you had just killed her."

if it was anyone but a celeb, they would have gotten 5 years in prison and not probation..... i wish i was a judge.... i would make big examples of celebs! they think they are above the law because of fame and fortune and the problem with that is the courts feel the same way too....and you got young kids that are idolizing these people... now you have some boys thinking its ok to beat your woman because you wont go to jail for it.....

Now that he is a convicted felon for hitting a woman he is not only less than a man, he is something less than a full citizen. Convicted felons are no longer allowed to vote (EVER!) or own, possess, borrow, or even touch a firearm (EVER!). So, I think the cops need to go visit his house and confiscate any guns as well as voter registration cards he may have in his possession.

.And its true just because your a celeb and money does not mean the judge should have cut on the sentence. cuz there are people just like chris brown but with out fame or money that will probably be in jail for years and years to come and um.... Wes you are right.. to a point. This "woman" and "man" have egged each other on .. their relationship is volitile.. and needed to end. They have no common sense.. and do not respect themselves or each other.
The best thing for them.. the judge saying no contact for 3 yrs.. they will meet others and move on then.
Perhaps he will learn from this.. we will find out.
Judge should have ordered sensitivity training.. and anger management.. Then probation to start.

If she is smart, and I believe she has wisened up, she will not take anything at all from this guy! She will be fine doing whatever it is she does and he needs to finally learn that it could have been worse and if he were a regular guy, without the high paid lawyers, his behind would've been locked up!
