Pop 10: Jon Gosselin's 9 to 5 Job Options

Although Jon Gosselin is sick of his reality show "nightmare" and wants a typical 9 to 5 job, we wondered if he'd actually be able to handle the monetary blow. (Get the story.) We did the math and have to admit, he'd have to work much harder for his money.

Gosselin says he works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week as a reality star on 'Jon and Kate Plus 8,' and reportedly makes about $75,000 per episode (and there were 42 episodes last season.) So how many hours would he need to work a day at a 9 to 5 job to meet his super-sized salary? More hours than any day has! To put it into perspective, if Gosselin followed in his father's footsteps and became a dentist (who makes an average annual salary of $141,000 in New York City), he would need to work 536 hours a day, 7 days a week to keep up with his reality show salary. If Gosselin wanted to take back his old job as an IT Analyst (who makes an average annual salary of $88,000 in New York City), he'd need to work 859 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Sweating to the oldies with Jon Gosselin? It could happen if he became a fitness trainer (who makes an average annual salary of $44,000 in New York City). But Gosselin would need to work 1,720 hours a day, 7 days a week.

If he got behind the wheel as a New York City taxi driver (who makes an average annual salary of $27,000 in New York City), he would need to work 2,800 hours a day, 7 days a week. (Tips not included.)

Gosselin could turn the tables and become a celebrity reporter (who makes an average annual salary of $70,000 in New York City), but he'd need to work 1,080 hours a day, 7 days a week. And hey, a little bird told us Star Magazine is looking for a replacement.

Although things never panned out with Ed Hardy designer Christian Audigier, Gosselin could start his own line. If he became a fashion designer (who makes an average annual salary of $79,000 in New York City), he would need to work 957 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Gosselin could literally be bringing home the bacon if he became a butcher (who makes an average annual salary of $32,000 in New York City). But he'd have to work 2,364 hours a day, 7 days a week.

He is pretty good with kids -- so it wouldn't be a stretch if he became a kindergarten teacher (who makes an average annual salary of $63,000 in New York City). But to earn the same amount of money, Mr. Gosselin would need to average 1,200 hours a day, 7 days a week.

If the kindergarten class doesn't work out, perhaps he can stay within the education system as a health instructor (who makes an average annual salary of $48,000 in New York City). Although he knows a thing or two about family planning, he'd have to work 1,576 hours a day, 7 days a week.

And if those wild nights partying with girlfriend Hailey Glassman get too expensive, he could give her a round "on the house" as a bartender (who makes an average annual salary of $28,000 in New York City). But he'd need to work 2,704 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Does anyone really believe that Jon wants a 9 to 5 job when he can live richly off the exploitation of his children?

Jon must have forgotten he has 8 children to support and working for TLC is just about his only option. I don't feel the children are being exploited but I'm not there seeing what is happening behind the scenes, I certainly hope the children aren't being harmed in any way by doing this show. I'm not that crazy about seeing Jon on the show anymore because of the way he's been acting.

It was obvious to all who watched this show, that Jon became the NINTH CHILD on that show. And, Kate, as usual stepped up and treated him like the rest of the bunch. Motherly. No wonder the relationship went downhill.

The money that he made and will earn with the explotiation of his children will only last so long. And seems he is too busy pissing it all away. So, when they forclose on all the porperties he owns, including the apartment in NYC, his next job should fit this "manchild" and that is as a New York City pooper scouper. Right up his alley since he's crap all over children and every where he's been.

They have to get back into the news some how to keep people going.. Now it is her turn after this. It is a he said she said. Long as we stay in the news bad news beats no news.. I dont the show since last year. To much of them and the kids are not in the picture much if so its to show them to shoot the press the very one that keeps them in the news. Jon has become a real thug. what happened to the good old boy Jon, father of eight. He says he loves his kids, but most dead beat dads say that also, but in the end the mom is the one who stands by the kids, while good old dad is dating and having fun. I hope Kate takes him to the cleaners so maybe he will grow up and accept responsibilty for his behavior. Theres nothing worse than lip service from the good old dads

Jon and kate should not even have to work ever. DO THE MATH PEOPLE. They make 75,000 an episode and there are 42 episodes a year they have been doing the show for what 5 years. They should not have to work and still be able to raise their children and put money aside for the kids college. Instead of spending it on THEMSELVES. We are raising our family on much much less. My husband and I combined annually we make a little over what they make in 1 episode. We have 2 mortgages we have 2 cars, we go on vacations and take our kids on day trips. Our kids have the things they want and are happy. These people make me sick. Everyone needs to stop feeling sorry for kate or jon they are greedy people and the public has made think they are something important. They are horrible parents. they have exploited their children for thier own personal gain. TLC needs to cancel the show. I refuse to watch anything on TLC because of these people.

The show will eventually get canceled. Jon should save all the money he makes. Also his 8 kids will need counseling because of the disfunctional upbringing by a controling mother and an aloof dad. So helping those kids will cost mucho bucks. Both Jon and Kate had better think of those kids they messed up.

I can tell you why many of us love this whole meltdown and and can't get enough of it. Jon and Kate represent everything the Christian right bible thumpers in this country are REALLY all about. Showing a good front. Lets go to church while the cameras film it!,After the two girls they couldn't adopt one of many children desperate for a home and a family, that would be too Christ like, instead of adoption lets go to a fertility doctor and create a freak show! they were even too selfish to adopt one of 1000's of dogs in shelters, opting instead for expensive pure breds, they pay lip service to "christian values" and "family values" and then behave in a manner that is the antithesis of Jesus' teachings. they are motivated only by greed and power and now vengence, their ugliest incarnation yet. They provide a crystal clear picture of who American republican "Christians" really are. Two people who are so swarming with greed and hatred that they don't even realize that when they attack each other they are attacking they own precious offspring that came from them both. When they are done growing up in public lets hope they can take care of the kids.
