While Chris Brown had a solemn presence in the Los Angeles courtroom where he received the sentence for his February assault of Rihanna, the 20-year-old singer was partying hard at a dance club just hours later. PEOPLE reports that Brown left his court hearing and headed straight to Guys & Dolls with a bunch of his friends and bodyguards, entertaining the crowd by dancing to Michael Jackson's 'Dirty Diana.'

"He didn't seem to care at all that everyone was watching him," a source told the magazine.

"He was in a totally good mood, just hanging out with his buddies. Then all of a sudden he decided to put on a little show," the source added. "Everyone went wild."

Earlier that day, a judge ordered Brown to serve five years probation and perform six months of community service for his role in the February attack. The singer will serve out his sentence in his home state of Virginia, and will have to check in frequently with the Los Angeles judge who sentenced him.

In his first communication with the public about the attack this summer, Brown told his fans how sorry he is about the beating incident. "I am very sad and very ashamed of what I have done... I've told Rihanna countless times and I am telling you all today that I am truly, truly sorry that I wasn't able to handle the situation both differently and better. " he said.

Back in April, Brown pleaded not guilty to both assault and criminal threat charges in court.

Brown's manager, Tina Davis, was named by TMZ as the woman behind the text message that sparked his alleged beating of Rihanna. She has since denied the claims, saying: "The rumors in circulation are false. There are no emails between Ms. Davis and Mr. Brown of the type which have been described in media reports."

Court documents revealed that the police report claims Brown allegedly assaulted Rihanna in his car after she discovered a text message on his phone. According to the report, Brown smashed her head against the window, and then punched and bit her.

TMZ obtained a photo that appears to be singer Rihanna, taken shortly after Brown allegedly beat her following a pre-Grammy party. Police have said the woman had visible injuries, and that Brown was gone from the scene when they arrived.

Brown can be seen leaving the police station after being booked. According to police reports, he assaulted Rihanna in the car, and told her "I'm going to beat the s--- out of you when we get home." He also allegedly threatened to kill her after she told her assistant to call the police.

In their cover story, PEOPLE spoke with the father of Rihanna, who says he hopes his daughter is done with boyfriend Brown after his alleged assault. Shortly after, reports that Rihanna and Brown were back together in Miami emerged.

Brown, seen a day before the alleged attack, released a statement on Feb. 15, which read in part, "Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired."

Brown was also ordered to stay 100 yards away from Rihanna during the period of his probation.

Brown assaulted Rihanna during Grammy weekend in February, reportedly punching and beating her inside of his car after an argument. He was arrested hours after the incident, and plead guilty to a felony assault charge in June.

This summer, Brown apologized to fans, saying what he did "was inexcusable," but promised to learn from his mistakes.

FYI, anyone can be the "N" word; it doesn't pertain to any particular color. How many of you who are passing judgement on Mr. Brown were there and saw everything that happened? Beautiful women in California have it made; they can start mess, push a man around and walk away smelling like a rose. The picture of Ms. R's face appeared to have been touched up to her advantage. I understand that this type of thing sometimes happens in California. We all need to choose our friends more wisely, and when we see the possiblilty of trouble in the other person's behavior or personality, we had better walk away quickly, especially, the males.

I'm not black and even I think what that person said was out of line and disrepectful to every woman of ANY color. White men beat up their women everyday. I agree with gsrangel 110%. Violence against women, is violent, it comes in every shape, color, orgin, nationality. Sadly we just got off track on the fact that Chris Brown did a 180 after leaving the Judges Court today. He should be kissing his lawyers feet for the miracle that he didn't end up in jail. Going out to party within the hour, is not going to fly with the judge, as she said she hears the chatter. How arrogant for him who isn't even 21 years old yet, and there he is all out and about at a club partying with his pals. I just have this feeling that he is going to eventually violate his probation. Thats 5 years and he is young and acting dumb !!! I see him serving time within the next 5 years. I wouldn't be surprised if he's called on his behavior right after the sentencing.
