Butler claims that he exchanged words with the couple after their large pet bit Lolita twice. The couple, Fred and Maria Varecka of Queens, argue that Butler went ballistic for no apparent reason - they say the two dogs merely touched noses and no biting occurred.Butler was walking his off-leash pooch when the incident began. According to the Vareckas, Butler "went on this rampage, shouting, 'That dog should be put down!'"
"I said, 'Your dog should be put on a leash.' He kept on going and going, ranting and raving. . . . He was being verbally abusive." Maria Varecka added, "He smacked the dog in the head. The dog's head went into the fence. I was shaking. The dog yelped. I said, 'Keep your hands off my dog! Why did you hit my dog?' He didn't say a word."

Dog-lover Butler sees the incident in a different light. His manager Alan Siegel described the conflict: "What happened was, Gerry was walking his dog, Lolita, who is this little, small pug, a teeny thing. You can hold her in one arm, she's that small. Then, suddenly, this greyhound, this huge, menacing dog, bites Lolita. She [Maria Varecka] and Gerry then have words. . . . [Then] the dog again goes over to Lolita and takes another bite."
TMZ reports that, after the second bite, Butler put his dog on a leash and began walking away, when the woman followed him. Butler intervened when the Greyhound attempted a third bite.
Siegel said Butler spent the next four hours at an Upper East Side veterinary hospital making sure that Lolita was no worse for wear. Reportedly, the pug is safe and healthy.
"People are so mean. They're just trying to milk this," Siegel concluded.

I wasn't there so I don't know who is right in that case. In my experience with my smaller (20pds.)and very friendly dog we have been attacked before while he was on leash and the bigger dogs were not. I even had one big unleashed dog try to bite my toddler while we were walking down the sidewalk. Hell yeah, (after I toss my child and my dog on my shoulder) I kick the aggressive bigger dogs, until they retreat. ALL DOGS SHOULD BE LEASHED!

Goodness, if a greyhound took a couple of actual bites out of a pug, there wouldn't be much left! Doesn't sound like the pug was even bleeding, I doubt those bites ever occurred. And yes Butler has an attitude and overinflated opinion about himself like a lot of celebs do, shame on him for behaving like Mr. Diva there. And he needs to obey leash laws, it's his own fault if his pug ever truly gets injured while off the leash.

send him to jail for two years! ROTFLMAO! You freakin' people are a trip!

Send him to jail for two years, then when he gets out make sure you protest that he does not return to acting and make him due community service! hahahaha You people are a freakin' trip!

What is up with these dogs being outside and not being supervised? Both the chihuahua and the greyhounds??? People can snatch the dogs from the yard, an animal can come into your yard and hurt the dog, your dog can escape and get injured or lost or hurt someone/something, or at the very least your dog can bark and bark and be a nuisance.

If his pug was actually bit why have we not seen photos of the injured animal? Damn dog should have been on a leash. I have 2 Greyhounds and I guarantee you if he smacked my hound regardless if my dog went snoot to snoot with his dog I would have proably been arrested. I want to see the bite marks on his pug.

I had a similar incident happen to me this summer. I was walking two of my dogs, a yorkshire terrier and an american pit bull terrier, when an off leash english bulldog charged and grabbed my yorkie. I kicked the bulldog to get him to let go, the owner came over an apologized. None of the dogs were injured. Next day I happened to pass same bulldog and he was on a leash.

The incident is Butlers FAULT!!! And ANY judge in NYC would say the same thing just as soon as it was stated that BUTLER'S dog was NOT on a leash! End of story..IF I was the owner of the greyhound the cops would have been called and I would have asked that cruelty charges be filed against Butler for ABUSING MY DOG! YOU DON'T HIT ANIMALS people! Now of course if your Michael Vick you do much worse and get away with it with a light sentence and then a MULTI MILLION dollar paycheck from the EAGLES and THEN you actually get to be a spokes person for the HUMANE SOCIETY. A group I will NO LONGER donate to or volunteer for!!!
Butler..grow up, keep your dog on a leash and don't HIT dogs!!!! Oh, and tell your agent or whoever not to be so mellow dramatic when spinning their lies in your favor!!!

Two things: A dog should be on leash in a city. Secondly, a check with the vet should provide proof if the small dog was bitten or not. If he was, that part of the case is closed. In my experience, the small dog is more likely to bite than the large dog, but that's a generalization. In any case, keep that dog on a leash, star or no star.

The owners of the greyhound are really trumping up this story. If a big dog lunges and bites a little dog, I think you're able to give it a whack. If it was a little dog biting a big dog, then kicking it should be just fine too.
Considering he took the dog to the vet, I'm pretty sure Butler isn't lying about the pug being bitten. Vets are nasty if you waste their time, even if they get your money.
Moral of the story is, know your dog. Know what it may do and YOU react before it can react again.

Sounds to me like he was defending his dog. Nothing wrong with that, I have done the same thing for my dog. Things like this are going to happen...I am not sure why the media makes such a big deal out of it. I actually like the guy a little more than I did before I heard this, truth be told.

Another celebrity ass wipe breaks the law and nothing happens...is it because they have money so they can be treated more fair than someone else.
Bottomline his dog was off leash ergo Butt Face was breaking the law. The Greyhounds most likely retired rescue dogs were on leash. Greyhounds are one of the least troublesome and problematic breeds and granted they may be prey driven to cats and small animals that is what they were bred for.
Rich people....always feel someone owes them a favor. Time to boycott some Butler films.

Bull-dog Sh*t!!
Greyhounds are vicious dogs. They need constant activity or they get restless and moody. I'm sure living in a New York apartment has done nothing for the temperment of that greyhound. I have no doubt it viciously attacked and bit the small pug. I have seen greyhounds literally tear cats apart for no reason but boredom.
