Kelly Osbourne's Addiction to Vicodin

Kelly Osbourne became addicted to Vicodin by the time she was 17, she has revealed. In her new book 'Fierce,' Osbourne reveals she was prescribed the pill and was soon taking up to 50 tablets a day because it gave her the confidence to cope with the new-found fame during filming of MTV's 'The Osbournes.'

"By this point I was waking up and emptying six Vicodin into my hand. Soon I was taking 50 pills a day. Most people would overdose on 10. My friends called me 'Noddy' because I fell asleep all the time," she said.

Osbourne also reveals the addiction only got worse when her mother Sharon was diagnosed with cancer. "My parents suspected. Mum would say, 'Darling, are you taking something? Please tell your mummy.' But I was good at lying," she said.

The reality TV star, who has been in rehab four times, admits she first experienced the effects of the strong opiate when she had her tonsils taken out at 13 and admits she enjoyed the feeling it gave her.

However, Kelly's parents, Sharon and legendary heavy metal hellraiser Ozzy Osbourne, soon discovered their daughter was lying and sent her to Malibu's Promises clinic to get help.

Although she spent 30 days there receiving treatment, Osbourne admits she wasn't ready to beat her addiction and did a further three stints in different rehab centers with the last one finally making her realize she had a serious problem. "After 30 days, I left rehab. For the first time, I felt hopeful. I knew I'd been given another chance at my life, at my career, at happiness. I wanted to grab it," she said.

My favorite Hollywood family, the Osbournes! Kelly and Jack have come through it all. Though the money is probably nice, fame and constant judgment can get to you. Sharon is the rock to that family and has held them all together loving her family unconditionally. If there were ever a Hollywood family to look up to, it be the Osbournes. Unconditional love and support is what family is about, and though they are judged for their unique style of parenting and living, I love them! It doesn't matter how many times you go to rehab, what matters is that you never give up changing your life, growing up with alcoholic parents and watching them give up slowly has been tuff, and has kept me away from that situation for my 6 month olds sake, but they as a family show anything is possible with full support and unconditional love.

Gene Simmons Family Jewels was higher rated at the end of the second season than The Osbournes. Simmons is now at the end of it's 4th season, and will immediately start the 5th season as it goes on the road with KISS to show how they deal with the legendary live show.

Natalie, I'm afraid you don't know what you're talking about. More albums sold, more viewers on TV, more merchandise sold than anyone and more concert sellouts than anyone in history of arenas that hold 17,000 or more.

Simmons is a much more entertaining show. But to each his own. If you like watching drug addicts, drunks, and the most disfunctional and idiotic family ever, Osbournes is for you. If you enjoy comedy without showing you have to be an idiot, then Simmons is much more entertaining.

i have a problem with people who have all they want wanting MORE... like the huge gulp of endowment they are born into and writhe and wallow in all their lives isn't enough for them... they want even more, long before we who struggle get a sip from the river of life they have fenced in for themselves alone... then they cry and moan and write a tell all and make another fortune to throw into the corner, attained but not really cared about... as for the drug addiction, i pray her victory... but neither she, nor any of the rest of us, will attain the strength to achieve THAT victory without JESUS fighting our fight for us and with us, encouraging us and urging us along to victory... make something GOOD of this opportunity, kelly, it may be your last one...

When a person is hooked on vicodan, they lose a lot of weight. Kelly surely has not, she is trying to get some publicity. She has done this before, claiming she was on drugs, and had to go to rehab. This is the only way she knows how to get attention. Sad she cant come up with some other kind of story to get attention.

sadly ur info is way wrong. i'm not sure how many people u've personally known or if it was you, but ur wrong. i am a recovering addict to hydrocodone and i was taking 50-60 pills of the 10/650's a day w/ taking 4 at a time every 3 hours for 6yrs. u do not lose weight, u gain...all you do is sleep and eat. there is no excersise. look it up. and i agree strongly w/ the one who said where are the doctors that wrote these scripts. YES, they should be prosecuted. i lost everything, kids, home, no jobs, friends, everything. even myself. us addict need to take responsibility but the DOCTORS that give it to us need to stand before judges to!!! all my BS stories i gave and all us addicts give is just that, BS. one doctor in denver, co gave me up to 350 pills in one week because i was a good liar. but come on, what excuse could possibly be good enough to get THAT many pills? i hope kelly beats this DISEASE cause its a hard one.

When people use Vicodin they don't always lose weight, my mother used Vicodin for 5 years. She would take 5 at the same time, using around 35 to 40 a day. Instead of losing weight, she actually gained 20 pounds. All people are different and react to the medication in different ways.

Donna, you are actually wrong.. I was addicted to vicodin for a very long time and I "GAINED" weight while I was on it everytime. I wwas always hungry when I would take vicodin or any other opiates. I don't think she's makin' anything up based on the fact she hasn't lost weight.. Not everyone reacts to drugs the same way.. Everyone knows that!

Natalie, you live in a different world. Gene Simmons, who has never done drugs, never been drunk, never smoked, and doesn't negotiate with his kids is the father of a family that can be looked up to. He & Shannon are the bosses and their kids know it. In turn, the kids are well adjusted to the fact they have their own money now, and have carried on the sobriety.

Osbournes are the family normally seen on shows like COPS, but with money.

The Simmons are great, I never followed their show, obviously less entertaining, however if you read my comment it was based on a family with unconditional love no matter what, and if you follow SHARON and her kids through what they have gone through with OZZY, they are a family to look up to. In a way we are all dysfunctional, drugs, food, drinking, lies, whatever caused that dysfunction in your family, different severity, we are all dysfunctional to someone.

Come again, I dont know how I am mistaken or wrong, I never compared Simmons to Osbournes or talked about eithers career. I was not even talking about their shows, I was talking about FAMILY. You must be reading into it wrong, and just looking for something to bash. :)
