Kelly Osbourne's Addiction to Vicodin

Kelly Osbourne became addicted to Vicodin by the time she was 17, she has revealed. In her new book 'Fierce,' Osbourne reveals she was prescribed the pill and was soon taking up to 50 tablets a day because it gave her the confidence to cope with the new-found fame during filming of MTV's 'The Osbournes.'

"By this point I was waking up and emptying six Vicodin into my hand. Soon I was taking 50 pills a day. Most people would overdose on 10. My friends called me 'Noddy' because I fell asleep all the time," she said.

Osbourne also reveals the addiction only got worse when her mother Sharon was diagnosed with cancer. "My parents suspected. Mum would say, 'Darling, are you taking something? Please tell your mummy.' But I was good at lying," she said.

The reality TV star, who has been in rehab four times, admits she first experienced the effects of the strong opiate when she had her tonsils taken out at 13 and admits she enjoyed the feeling it gave her.

However, Kelly's parents, Sharon and legendary heavy metal hellraiser Ozzy Osbourne, soon discovered their daughter was lying and sent her to Malibu's Promises clinic to get help.

Although she spent 30 days there receiving treatment, Osbourne admits she wasn't ready to beat her addiction and did a further three stints in different rehab centers with the last one finally making her realize she had a serious problem. "After 30 days, I left rehab. For the first time, I felt hopeful. I knew I'd been given another chance at my life, at my career, at happiness. I wanted to grab it," she said.

50 pills a day? B.S. She would be dead. That is a horrible thing to exaggerate about. A person can only take 4000 milligrams of Acetaminophen per day or their liver will shut down. If she was taking 50- 500 milligram pills per day, that is 25,000 milligrams! She would overdose the first day and it would be a slow agonizing death over the course of 5-7 days as her liver (and the rest of her organs) shut down.

Does she even consider the people who are taking Vicodin for legitimate pain? Maybe someone is taking it after surgery. They are in pain. They read Kelly Osbourne's B.S. and then think, "Well, the doctor and pharmacist told me to not take more than 4,000 milligrams per day, but Kelly Osbourne took 25,000 per day, and it didn't hurt her. I can take a couple more than they recommend." Not a good idea- a really bad idea.

She should be ashamed of herself and offer a very swift and public retraction. She needs to understand that her celebrity influences others. Why is she a celebrity again? What does she do besides ride her daddy's coattails?

"50 pills a day? BS you'd be dead" What's BS is your lack of knowledge. My best friend was taking up to 40 vicodin a day no problem. People have to work up to that kind of tolerance. Someone who hasn't taken vicodin before would die YES... but someone who has been taking them for awhile can easily work up to that much. There's been reports of people taking up to 100 a day.. Yes it is possible and NO they don't die.. (At least not right away) don't get me wrong.. it's very hard on the liver. When I was addicted to them, I was taking up to like 20 a day but I started out with 2 because that's all I needed to feel good. Afterwhile you need more and more especially with opiates.

Here ya go, read the second paragraph.. It talks about the reports of 100 pills a day.. That's like a bowl a cereal

"Your body can only handle 4000 mg of acetamenaphin a day" What are you smoking?? I've taken 18-20 vicodin in one day before... that's about 9000 to 10,000 mg of acet in one day and my liver did not shut down.. This was a LONG time ago too. In fact, one of my friends was taking like up to 40 a day for years.. His liver did not shut down. You are not recommended to go past 4,000 mg of acet because it CAN be dangerous if it's exceeded every day. Please please please get your facts straight before posting stuff you know nothing about.. Trust me, you know nothing about vicodin or vicodin addiction.. I can tell by your posts.

BTW, not all vicodin has 500 mg of acetameniphin in it.. Some have 325mg (norco), some has more.. Depends on what kind you get.. They sometimes have different names as well..
