Neeson Still Struggling With Tragic Loss

Actor Liam Neeson is still "taking each day as it comes" as he continues to struggle with the tragic loss of his wife Natasha Richardson.

Neeson told 'Good Morning America' co-host Diane Sawyer that he and his sons Micheál, 12, and Daniel, 13, are doing the best they can to get along in the wake of this tragedy. It was his first official sit-down interview since Richardson's death in a skiing accident last March. Neeson and Richardson had been married for 15 years.

"I'm still getting extraordinary condolence letters from American people that's deeply, deeply touching," said a grateful Neeson, thanking his many fans. This overwhelmingly positive support led the actor to make a surprise announcement about his citizenship.

"I'm still a proud Irishman, of course, but I've become an American citizen. I'm very proud of that," said the 57-year-old actor, who is doing the rounds promoting his latest film 'Five Minutes of Heaven.' "I've been living here for 20 years and America's been very, very good to me."

Neeson has starred in 'Star Wars: Episode I', 'Love Actually' and 'Batman Begins'. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor in 'Schindler's List'.

Natasha Richardson was the daughter of director/producer Tony Richardson and actress Vanessa Redgrave. The Tony Award-winning actress was a member of the Redgrave family acting dynasty. She died after sustaining a head injury during a ski lesson outside of Montreal last March. She was 45.

It gets easier but he will never forget my sister was killed at the age of 17 by a drunk driver in 1976 and it still seems like yesterday. I don't dwell on it but every now and then something will trigger the memory and it all comes flooding back. I wish Mr.Neeson all the best and my sincerest condolences.

I am saddened by Mr. Neeson's loss. I understand what it's like to lose loved ones to death. It is true, love never dies. You always remember your loved ones who have passed on.
I consider Mr.Neeson a great actor and have seen some of his movies, which I like very much.
I wish the best for him and his sons and his wife's family also and I welcome him to America.

My husband died 3 years ago, on 29 September 2006. Not a day goes by that I don't think of him, miss him, or want him back.

What kind of fruitcakes are these reporters? Of course he is still mourning his wife.

You don't get "over" your spouses death. You learn to live with it.

It's only been about 6 months, and he loved her so much. My father passed away 8 years ago and it's just a pain that never really leaves. Your life is always different. They were so fortunate to have had her in their lives, she loved them dearly. All the holidays will be different, heck my dad passed 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. I wish them peace and that they can always remember her love and how it's always with them.

I truly like this man, He's the sort of person I'd like to have as a buddy. I sympathize with anyone that looses a loved one. Healing can take forever but then just when you think you'll never smile again, life returns. Savor the memories; they become more precious with time. And love the ones you're with even more. It's a very short ride.

My husband, age 43, died unexpectedly of heart disease on 2-2-09. My heart goes out to Liam and others who lose their spouse. It is SO heart breaking. You don't understand until you go through it. I'm not the same and I may never be. But by God's grace, I press on.
