Parker Posey Struck by Lyme Disease

Parker Posey has withdrawn from a lead role in the upcoming off-Broadway production of 'This' after developing Lyme disease, Huffington Post reports. The show will go on, the production company says and a replacement will be announced in a few weeks.

Lyme disease is usually caused by the bite of a tick carrying a particular bacteria but is treatable. It can however lead to severe problems in the brain, heart, nerves, joints if left untreated.

Posey, 40, had been planning to play a single-mom poet dealing with life and love in the off-Broadway show at Mainstage Theater. Previews start Nov. 6 and, according to the production's artistic director, they will kick off as scheduled.

She was great in "Best in Show" and "A Mighty Wind", but I can't stand her in anything else. However, I do not wish this on anyone and I hope she gets well soon.

Her first name was a tribute to Suzy Parker who was a supermodel in the 1950's. Mr. Posey, her father, was a big fan of Suzy. Parker Posey appeared in a lot of independent films in the 90's and is known as the Queen of the Indies.
