Speidi Says 'Thank You, Silver Fox'

We don't usually tune into CNN for commentary on celeb appearances, but we did just that earlier this week, when news correspondent Anderson Cooper unleashed a two-minute tirade tearing Heidi Montag to shreds. Montag performed her song 'Body Language,' at the Miss Universe pageant, an event Cooper called a "fresh new way to embarrass herself." Ouch. We're always looking for a chance to talk to our new besties Montag and her husband Spencer Pratt, so we called them up for their exclusive take on the verbal throwdown... and found that they were thrilled.

"Oh my God, I love it," Montag told PopEater. "I am so incredibly flattered that he's talking about the first performance I've ever done, that he's talking about me, that he knows who I am. Who gets on CNN? Britney, when she shaved her head, gets on CNN. That's all that matters: Heidi, CNN, Anderson Cooper. Done."

Not only does she not take Cooper's comments personally, she thinks the extra publicity will help her career skyrocket. And as for Cooper musing "why she is pretending to be a singer or why anyone should listen to her," it takes more than a news analyst to get Montag down. "We're in the entertainment industry. It's supposed to be fun. This is not so serious. We're not judges," she says, and adds that she could not be happier with her performance, no matter what they're saying on CNN.

"I'd never performed before, not even in front of even ten people! Praise God. I had so much fun," Montag says. "Look at everyone's first performances - look at Britney's first performance or Lady Gaga's, even. These girls were hardly even dancing. Britney did a couple little moves; it took her two years to start dancing like I did that first night. And I didn't mess up one move, I had so much fun, it was such a blessing. I was praying so hard, and I couldn't have done better. It was miraculous!"

Montag may not take Cooper's words to heart, but is Pratt as laissez-faire when a CNN anchor trash-talks his wife? He sure is. "He's got his producers, and that's what they want to cover? Go for it. I just find it funny that [CNN] is supposed to be the most serious, hard-hitting news. It's crazy that he doesn't have something else to talk about, like CIA torture or healthcare. It's bizarre when that many seconds are spent being negative about celebrities. It's silly, but hey, I would have paid him to do it." Watch the video:

Pratt adds, "Thank you, Anderson Cooper, for using up CNN's time to talk about my beautiful wife's performance in the most-viewed telecast in the history of the world. Thank you, Silver Fox, for that."

During the broadcast in question, a CNN contributor identified Montag to Cooper by saying, "You know, she married that annoying Spencer Pratt. They love themselves. They're Speidi!"

Fair? Absolutely, says Pratt. "It's a very new thing for two celebrities to be so vocal about their love for themselves. Most celebrities try to downplay the fact that they're the biggest famewhores on Earth," he admits. "Everyone in Hollywood is exactly like Speidi, they just try to pretend like they're not, because they're worried they'll have the Speidi effect."

Cooper even picks on Montag's prayers, calling out the Twitter update she posted just after completing her performance. "She tweeted she had so much fun, and she also thanked God," Cooper said. "I don't think God had anything to do with this production."

That's fine too, Montag insists. "He can say whatever he wants. It's my Twitter, so I'm not going to not Twitter whatever I really think and my beliefs - for anyone. I pray for him."

What happened to the Speidi ban? I was all for it. I, for one, think she should save all that praying for intelligence. GOD or Jesus is not answering your prayers honey. Please Popeater, I wasted enough time commenting on them, I don't want to read headlines about them either...WHO'S IN FOR ANOTHER SPEIDI BAN??????

I like that Heidi Montag is accepting the constructive criticism from Anderson Cooper without getting too ticked up and pent up about it. I thought her performance was good, although she's nowhere near Britney Spears. She's trying to get her music out there as well as promoting her upcoming album on Sept. 29th. I don't like her on TV's The Hills, but she sold me with her new song Body Language--very catchy with shades of '80s pop in its 2009 dance pop sound. It has that Lady Gaga/Britney Spears patchwork sound in it--very influential on Montag. And she is right about Anderson's criticism of her performance will help her career skyrocket, especially her music. For one nasty comment from Anderson might make others get her new album. It's the same with movies--we ignore bad reviews and watch the movie we want to see instead. Lastly, maybe it was a slow news day for Anderson in a summer month when most people are on vacation, so he decided to lash on Montag to fill up dead gaps of air time.

Uh, as ditzy as she is, this duo is right. they're dumb but not when it comes to what sells and AC fell right into the trap set for him. With all of the news out tere he chooses to do an "editorial" on some chick's performance? It's fluff enough because it's a beauty pageant but to do do even 1 minute on a performance in the pageant? He sank low and I'm glad he was held accountable for it because it was shameless and fox news-ish.
