Oasis Bros. Hit Each Other in Anger, and Band's Leader Quits
By PopEater Staff Posted Aug 29th 2009 10:00AM
Because he couldn't imagine working "a day longer" with his younger brother Liam, Oasis guitarist and leader Noel Gallagher has quit the band, casting doubt on the 'Wonderwall' group's future. In a statement on the band's Web site, Gallagher said he's leaving "with some sadness and great relief." The brothers have long had a volatile relationship, and it was reportedly a fight backstage on Friday that led to Noel's snap decision. The Good Times:
The band were due to play the Rock en Seine festival in Paris on Friday, but fans were met with the following message instead: "As a result of an altercation within the band, the Oasis gig has been canceled."
According to a Guardian report, the brothers were involved in a fight backstage minutes before they were scheduled to hit the stage. The brawl is said to have involved broken guitars.
Singer Amy McDonald was told by a festival promoter all about the fight, writing on her Twitter page: "Oasis canceled again with one minute to stage time!!! Liam smashed noels guitar, huuuge fight!"
Gallagher quickly released a statement sending "apologies to all the people who bought tickets" for the band's remaining shows in France, Italy, and Germany.
Liam recently cast doubt on the band's future as well in an interview with NME magazine. In it, he admitted the brothers rarely spoke and only saw each other on stage.
"He doesn't like me and I don't like him, that's it," Liam said.
The surrly band from Manchester was an integral part of the Britpop movement in the 1990s. Their hits include 'Wonderwall,' 'Supersonic' and 'Champagnge Supernova.' After a quick burst of hits in America, the band struggled to regain their footing here, but remained hugely popular in their native Britain.

Yeah, they have their fans....trashy fans as well. They suck....no talent at all. The next Beatles, oh please...Thomas Wall Band could give them a run for thier money, and he sucks too! Hopefully they will shoot each other and put everyone else out of their misery!

Never heard of them. So, Who Cares?

America never cared for or about this old group from the 1990s that was only popular in England and only famous here because Gwen Stefani was/is? (who cares) to the guitarist or whomever.
Reporting needs to be cut back or elminated regarding this group.

Frustration that they could never be The Beatles. At this point, who REALLY cares?

I was about 16 when Oasis hit it big. I was living in Iceland. Yeah, I'm American and I loved them. Their music was completely new to me. With a hint of old classic rock style thrown in for good measure. I laughed to their songs and cried to their songs. I always had respect for Noel (knowing he was the driving creative force in the band and the rock that held them together for so long) and their music will always be in intrical part of me. But, when I moved back to America after the single D'You Know What I Mean, they sort of faded from my awareness and I let them go gracefully. When I hear them on the radio they still move me because it's a part of my youth. They were great once but, all good things and great things come to an end. They had a hell of a run though. And although they had their personal issues mostly lived out in the public eye, I have to give Noel at least the acknowledgement he deserves. Well done Noel. I hope he gets to live a happy peaceful rest of his life now. After putting up with all that sh*t for so long. And I do understand how some may think they sucked but, for a little while at least (though I never considered them the new Beatles) they were supernova and magic musically to me! That's how I shall choose to remember them.

The younger brother was always a mental case. If he did't have expensive lawyers and money to buy himself out of trouble he would have been in prison long ago........

Weren't Oasis the lesser known bunch of jokers when compared with Pulp.
However ..... the Gallagher Brothers were so lame and so out of date even in 1988.

I though they broke up a while back? When did they get back together?
What I never liked about this group was all the fighting!! They sound like six year olds. GROW UP!!!

Too bad that two brothers cannot put their egos aside and realize that what's good about their music is a combination of the musical talents of each member of this very fine band.
Grow up boys. Perhaps your parents need to sit you two down and get you a therapist. Hope it's not too late and you don't throw it all away!
